Hi everyone,

I have been having women troubles for years, fibroids, and my doctor has told me I need to have a Hysterectomy. I have such problems with nausea from drugs like pain killers I don't know if I can do this! Does anyone know which pain killers cause less nausea?

    Thank you

Vicodin.. (sp?) is the worst.. i was ok on percicet.. again i dont know how to spell these things.. but anyways pain killers always have the n* side affect.. it helps if you get an anti-n* from your doctor with it!

    Hope you feel better soon!

Anything narcotic will probably make you ill. Like percocet, vicodone, codiene, morphine, tramadol or pliva. These are all narcotic based. I have been on all of them. I play on a womens tackle pro football team and I have dislocated my should playing football and doing snowboarding tricks. But if you tell the doc that narcotics make you ill he or she should give you an anti-emetic. My doc gave me tramado for the pain and promethizine for the effects of n* they cause. Promethizine works great with narcotic meds. It just makes you REALLY thirsty and of course sleepy! Good luck!

I've been on moraphine....no problems, vicodin made me feel sick, darvaset was a godsend. I can take that with no problems at all, and it helps...alot. I just took it with some food and I felt alot better. Good Luck with your surgery, its not as bad as you think, by the way when is it??

I had a hysterectomy in 2003, and they gave me Percocet, which alleviaated the pain, but I also needed another med for n*. i did get n*, so they gave me the anti-n* meds round the clock while I was in the hospital (2 days).. By the time I got back home, I just took Tylenol since the pain wasn't as bad anymore. Good luck! i can also tell you from experience, that you'll be soooooooo relieved after the surgery! Having no more painful, messy, long periods had been a lifesaver for me.

I would tell your doctor that you have the fear of V*. Explain to them that when you become N* you get very stressed. Chances are if they understand your phobia they will look into what meds to give you. When I had a c-section my doctor made sure that I was on anti N* Meds. I did not take ANY pain killers however...I would have much rather dealt with the pain that take the chance of becoming sick. I just took extra strenth tylenol...people think I am crazy, maybe I am but it was well worth it to me!!!

    Good Luck!

I have the exact same problem as you... I need surgery "down there" but I'm extremely wary of how I will feel. It's a difficult situation and I keep on putting my operation off.. it's really bad!

You should go for it and be brave (it's easier said than done though, I know!) It's a scary experience, especially if you're emet... *siiigh* Difficult to know what exactly to do.

Hope everything goes well if you go ahead with it.

    Good luck Laura.

I'm having my ovaries removed on Friday and I'm scared to death... more about being sick than the pain! Typical emet, huh? I'll let you know what I had and how it was afterwards.

    Hi Marby~~

Do you mind me asking: Have you had a hysterectomy? I did, and now my ovaries have cysts off and on, and they bother me, so one day I may opt to have mine removed as well. If you don't mind responding to this, that would be helpful to me, and I'd like to know how you are feeling after your surgery if that's OK. You can PM me with this if you'd like. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the well wishes Laura... best wishes back at you for your upcoming surgery!

Charlene - I have not had a hysterectomy. I have a history of endometriosis, which was surgically removed twice in the last 12 years. Now, I've had recurring ovarian cyst issues for the last year, with one being an endometrioma that measures about 6cm. It's wreaking alot of havoc with my body at this point - right-sided abdominal pain, low back pain, nausea (yuk!) and bowel disruption. My doctor thinks it is now wrapping around the ovary/tube and putting pressure on other internal organs. I've had 5 cysts since last September. It's time for these dysfunctional ovaries to go! I'll get on the forum and let you know how it went once I'm home and online again... hoping that will be Sunday or Monday latest.

    Cheers,
    Marby
