Hi, I am new and wanted to see if anyone felt the way I did about the Dentist. I hate going more than anything! Does anyone else feel this way? It is really comforting to see that the strange things I did so that I don't get sick are the same things that others are doing. I don't feel like such a weirdo! I am 29 years old and I have been dealing with this for almost 10 years.I am much better now then I was 6 years ago. I let this condition take over me. I am 5'7" and I used to weigh 90 pounds. It got so bad that I would never eat unless I was at home and even then it was hard. I am happy to say that I am much better although it is still a part of my life. I am really happy to find a website like this so I can vent and learn from all of you! Also I have been suffering with IBS for almost 11 years as well as ulcers. I found that very interesting that a lot of people with this fear also have IBS.

    Thanks for listening,

As for the dentist. I'm bad and havent been for ages. But I never really had a problem...always seems so clean and shiny at my dentist.

I hate the dentist too...it's the feeling of being trapped in the chair, nowhere to run, things in my mouth making me want to gag, ugh!

I usually knock back something large and alcoholic before I go, it relaxes me, lol!!

I was petrified of going to the dentist, the feeling of sitting in that chair and beginning to feel anxious and bolting out the door whether he was finished or not, those feelings are gone.
Believe me if you have problems with your teeth get them fixed. It was a long time for me to see the dentist and now I am paying for it, partial dentures and hardly no back teeth and I am 40.
Find a dentist who you can talk to, tell him your fears. I found the perfect dentist and he treats me with respect, always asking how I am while he is working on my teeth. I have been there 4 times now and not once have I had a problem. When they call to remind me for my next appointment I dont freak out, I just go.

    Hi, welcome to the board.

It's a pretty funny coincidence that you should mention this because I went to the dentist just the other day.

It wasn't very bad, other than that the hyiegnist kept nicking my gums with the metal scraper thing while doing the cleaning. That hurt. Once the dentist actually came in it didn't take much time at all. He looked at my x-rays and then my teeth briefly and told me everything was fine. Guess I'm just lucky.

But I defiantely hate the dentist. I hate teeth too. Teeth freak me out.. I always have nightmares about my teeth falling out! I hate it!

Hi Leighann and welcome to the site! I am glad to hear that the emet is no longer ruling your life.

I hate the dentist, but I make myself go as I am too scared not to!! I have heard horror stories about people not going and then having to have all of their teeth out . That would be awful.

I worry that I am going to v* while the dentist is working on my teeth, I also worry that the instruments he uses have not been cleaned properly and have particles of norovirus on them, which I know is stupid as they use very good disinfectants and cleaners these days!

As for the dentist, I personally don't have a problem with it, but my husband HATES it. You aren't alone!!!
