Has anybody else ever had this from pepto-bismol? I'm so annoyed, cos I could do with one now, but I'm scared cos of my black tongue and stool... I know it says on the packet it can cause it and it's completely harmless, but I just don't want to over do-it... IRRITATED.

Today was ridiculous because I wash brushing my teeth I noticed I was spitting out black, so I looked at my tongue in the mirror and it was black, which then caused panic (ish) as i got palpations (skipped some heartbeats...) I need a pepto, but I wanna know if anybody else has had it, I even got to the stage where I rang the NHS helpline, the nurse said she has heard it's a side effect from some other medicines and you cant get sick from it cos it's nothing to do with the stomach... but im still a bit wary of taking more.. what do you think people??????????

Sorry for rambling, I'm a tad under the influence of alcohol...

    Thanx, love Amy xXxXxXxXx

I've never had it but it's a very common side effect and I heard of it very often.

I used to take Pepto ALL THE TIME. It was like a crutch for me that, luckily, I was able to kick, but I used to always get the black stool and tongue. So, yes, I would say it is fine for you to take again.

Yep that happens to me all the time when I take pepto. It won't hurt you.

About the only way it might is that if you take the chewables they can stain your teeth. The dentist got onto me about that once, so I switched to the swallowable caplets...problem solved.

It does cause darkened stools and often turns your mouth dark. I think it just has to do with what the active ingredients are or something --- there is nothing to worry about really, just make sure you don't over-do-it with the pepto... Too much can also result in constipation

yea pepto can do that, I too think its stained one of my teeth like permanentely, and I didnt even take it all that much (well sometimes I did, but I havent for a long time). Doesnt it have like that charcoal stuff in it or something that does that? Im not sure what makes it do that.
