*maybe gross if you hate blood

About 45 mins ago I had a really bad bloody nose that went on for about 10-15 mins. At some points y mom kept tellling me to plug my nose but, in result a mouth full of blood. That happened maybe 3 times. My mom kept yelling at me to swallow it. So I did. I feel fine. I'm just freaking out, I keep wondering if its just going to come out like other liquids or I'm going to going to v*. I shudder at the thought

Some assure me I'm going to be okay, I've been eyeing and AirHead candy. I'm hungry

Ihad this happen tons of times. This might soundweird but if I were you I'd use a tampon and just stick it in your nose that usually helps and you don't have to shallow that much blood. I've never got sick from it and I would think its just like anyother liquid. I think your gunna be fine. Just try not to think about it, eat the air-head.

You should NEVER swallow blood from a nosebleed or any other bleed- swallowing blood is never a good idea, as it can cause an upset stomach, or some really funky stool. With a nosebleed, leaning backwards can also clog your airway with blood and cause choking.

I'm not saying that its definitelygoing to make you sick (my boyfriend swallowed a lot of it recently and didnt vomit), but it should be avoided in the future. He did have black stools for 2 days, which you may expect a bit of. Nothing painful- just kinda gross.

The next time you have a nosebleed, it's best to sit down, lean forward, and try to just let it all come out onto a kleenex or something. It's rare that a nosebleed will last for a long time- the bleeding will usually taper off on it's own.

If you are feeling hungry- go for it! I would eat something carby, to maybe try to absorb some of what you swallowed. Like bread or something of the like.

Yeah I agree with crimgoddess. Swallowing the blood was probably a bad idea, it would have been better to spit it out because blood can upset your stomach. CAN not necessarily WILL. You said you feel fine so I'm sure you will be fine, and you said you were hungry so obviously if you feel like eating you're okay.

Just keep in mind for next time that it probably isn't a good idea to swallow the blood if you can avoid it.

Yeah, I agree. I would not swallow mouthfulls of blood if I could avoid it. That is definately not recommended. You may get a slightly upset stomach...but you may not. Just try not to freak out if that happens. Something similar happened to me years ago and I remember feeling a bit queasy, but nothing that stopped my from my normal routine.

    Hope you are feeling better.

I used to get nose bleeds. UGH and I'd just do as amber said and lean forward. If you pinch at the upper part of your nose that can help too (while leaning forward) the part where the little nose piece of glasses would sit. If you keep getting them see a doctor you may have an allergy or soemthing and this annoyance could be eliminated.

As for swallowing blood ... eww lol. I've done iton accident at the dentist and neveer got sick so you should be ok but don't do it anymore just spit it out in a napkin or something. Plus if you aren't tilting back and do th lean forward you shoudn't get any in your mouth.

    Hope this helps.
