I feel the same about the dentist, but i have been goin to the orthadontist monthly for about two years now so im getting much better at handling it - mainly because i have to! I always focus on my breathing and try and keep it very regular as this stops you panicking so bad. Counting is good as well because it gives you something else to focus on and if you keep counting till you are done it will be over in no time. I also find it helpful to have something to fiddle with in my hands, i usually take bluetack coz it is really small but works kinda like a stressball. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hey showstoppajamie,
I actually went to the dentist this morning but I went a week ago and all they did last week was take some x-rays but all the do is stick this plastic things in your mouth and you have to bite and sometimes the plastic things are to big and sometimes they hurt but not that bad, then they put this thing up to your cheeks, and that just takes the x-rays. Then they tell you what you need done to your teeth.

Today I had my teeth cleaned and what they do is they get this pointy metal thingy and they like, scratch all your teeth to get all theichy stuff off them, then they brush your teeth with like this special tooth past stuff, then they floss your teeth and sometimes it hurts if you don't floss that much. I needed some sealants and what they do is they have to keep your mouth dry and they put this thing in your mouth and against your tooth and it beeps then like a minute later it beeps again then they take it out but it doesn't hurt. So I think it depends on what you need done, but I wouldn't worrythat much. I actually like going to the dentist, but it never v*.

If I were you I'd talk to your dentist and tell him or her about your fear and ask them what if anything you need done will make you v*. Let me know how it goes.

Going to the dentist shouldn't make you v*. I went for a cleaning a couple weeks ago and it was fine. The first time I went to this dentist was the first time I'd been to a dentist in 5 years so I was nervous and felt gaggy, but I was okay.

I also had my wisdom teeth out recently. Surgery! Now there's anxiety for you. However, I was absolutely fine and didn't feel nauseous at all.

Brittaniray, outlined pretty well what they do. At mine they also do am oral cancer screening where they basically just look inside your mouth, and they test for gum disease with a tiny probe which they stick in between each tooth and gum. That can hurt, but not horribly.

I can't really give you advice about having cavities filled, because I've never had one! I did have a chipped tooth once that the dentist filed down. It was weird seeing and smelling bone dust from my own teeth, but I didn't feel sick at alll during it.
