Ok so I'm leaving for Florida in2 days and I'm feeling very nervous. It's a 9 to 10 hour plane journey for a start and I hate planes for so many reasons. I hate that someone else is totally in control of where I go and whether or not I survive. I don't like not being able to escape, I don't want to see anyone v* and I can't shake the feeling that giant metal things should not be a million feet in the air.

And of course we're doing the Disney thing for most of the trip which freaks me out because people v* on rides, especially little kids and disney is full of them. Plus there's the fact that last time I went to America I got the flu (not the stomach kind) and it ruined the trip for everyone. And to top it off my GCSE results will be on the doormat the day I get home and I know thats going to be hanging over my head.

I'm really looking for advice about how to reduce risk and stress on this trip. Anyone?

Oh my gosh, how long are you staying in Florida? I'm heading out there in a week or so, that would be so cool if we were there at the same time.

As for how to deal with the stress, is there one thing that really calms you down? On the plane ride you should bring a headset so you can listen to your music, and maybe a book? Also, make sure that you stay hydrated! I ended up almost fainting when I went to spain because i didnt drink enough.

At disney, there are different sections in all the different parks. One sectio nhas mroe kiddie rides than othrs. I would try to stay away from that section, if you want to avoid little kids potentially v*ing. Also, are you staying in a hotel in the park? If so, if you get overwhelmed you can always go back for a bit and just relax, watch some tv.

I hope you have a good time on the trip! I've been to disney twice, and after you relax it's amazing. Keep us updated!

I'm there for 2 weeks, we will be there at the same time, that is cool!

I will listen to my music I guess but its just hard for me to distract myself with that for more than an hour or so. (I have a reeealy short attention span)

We're not staying at a park hotel but I can probably convince my mum to go home at lunchtimes when it gets really hot.

So are you actually going to disneyworld or just florida? Maybe we could meet up somewhere? Although maybe not make a big thing about the emet in front of my family since they don't quite get it.

hey i just got back from 2 weeks in portugal so i understand your fears and had most of them myself! I only had 2 fly or 3 hours so obviously it wasn't that bad. On the plane i read, played cards, listened to music, watched the tv etc, did everything possible to take my mind off it really! My flights were fine and everyone else on them seemed fine but i was on high alert the whole time. If you're anything like me you will be so exhausted from worrying that by the time you get on the plane you will knackered! I took some motilium 10 with me just incase i needed them thru the flight but if you are really worried you could take one before you take off and while you are flying. It is a nice reassurance!

As for while you are there try to keep out of the midday sun and keep fully hydrated, iv never been to disney before but i am pretty sure there is stuff there for people who aren't huge fans of rollercoasters? Anyway enjoy your holiday, i bet you have a fab time! x

    Hey.

Wow thats cool!! i've been to disney twice there, its really awesome!!. The second time i went i took stuff to keep me busy on the plane, like music, drawing stuff. My mum also put a little lavender on a hanky for me to smell to try and calm me down which worked. I hope you have a good time there and enjoy yourself.

OMG you guys are gonna be like an hour away from me! How cool!

You're gonna be fine, no rule that says you have to go on whirly rides at Disney.

That's ok, you will probably sleep during part of the flight. You will be fine. I hope you have a great time.

One word "XANAX" works great. See if you can get ahold of some of that.

    Hey Hannah!

If it makes you feel better, you are exponentially more likely to get in a car accident than any sort of accident involving a plane. Statistically speaking, its the safest way to travel!

I like some of the ideas presented- comforting smells, music- perhaps a book or some magazines? Also, you will likely have an assortment of movies to choose from- I know that on my almost 20 hr flight to Australia, between sleeping I watched quite a few. It definitely keeps you occupied!

I also make sure that I bring some snackey food with me, just in case the inflight meal isn't appetizing. I also have a bit of an oral fixation (lol), so had plenty of gum, candy, and mints to suck on. I wouldn't recommend taking any sort of medication that you haven't before, just in case you don't like how it makes you feel, or you react badly to it.

As for little kids being sick due to rides at Disney- believe it or not, the little ones are usually okay on the rides. One of my friends worked at Eurodisney for a year, and my boyfriend does onsite first aid at midways and fairs. They see a lot more teens being ill on rides then little kids- usually due to overeating a lot of junk and going on many rides in a rapid succession. Little kids tend to take it slower, lol, and stick to the tamer stuff.

I hope you have an amazing trip! I'm sure once you are there and having fun, a lot of these worries will disappear.

Oh my God, they just foiled this big terrorist plan and everythings fine, nobody got hurt or anything. Only thing is, you can't bring anything on the plane except a wallet, a passport and travel documents.

So I can't bring my laptop and listen to music or watch DVDS, I can't bring my mp3 player, I can't bring a book, a bottle of water, snacks, gum, mints, anything!

Obviously I'm happy they're being careful but I'm just freaking out slightly because I'm going tomorrow and they've taken away any small amount of control I could keep in the situation

lol i soooo have to agree with alwaysamber... xanex works wonders my dear.. that and a lil bonine or dramamine for motion sickness ..

I usually take a cd player .. wow they wont let you.. i know i was thinking of you after i heard about the terrorists last night.. hmm i DO know that YOU can take medications with you.. i heard that this morning on the news. hmm what a bout a tiny mp3 player? will they let you take that or no? wow this is scary stuff.. but happily that everything is ok now.. have a safe trip!

btw.. ALSO since you are flying over seas YOU SHOULD be able to watch a movie.. with head phones that maybe distracting.. i flew from washington state to Frankfurt Germany last year.. total of 14 or 15 hrs of flying. and I was ok.. thanks to meds and movies and music!

    Take care and have fun!

My bf said he heard the press conference from the head of Homeland Security and it said you can bring anything on the planeexcept liquids. They will probably search your carry-on bag, but you can bring all your stuff, except maybe the water bottle. Good luck and have a great trip!

Oops. my bf didn't realize that you were flying FROM England, not the US, so maybe it's different there! Sorry if I was wrong! He also said the same as Kristin..get there SUPER early! 3-4 hours at the bare minimum! He says the less you pack as carry-on and the looser you pack it, the faster you'll get through.

    hey everyone.

Ok its 2am, I'm leaving in about 3 hours (for a 12pm flight which will certainly be delayed)so I should sleep but I don't see that happening. The UK is being a lot stricter than the US, nothing in hand luggage except loose tissues, wallets and passports.

I'm just going to plug myself in to whatever film seems least dull and try and get a 9 hour long conversation going with my family. Whoo... lol

I'll miss all you guys! Have a great couple of weeks without me, no more big debates when I can't join in! Mwah xxx
