I'm 24 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from horrendous heartburn and nausea for the past few weeks.
The terrible thing about it is that rather than just being painfulit makes me feel n*! I've tried talking antacids like Tums, Gaviscon etc and they just make me really really terribly n* - to the point where I've lain awake shaking with fear because I think I'm going to V*.
I went to see my (Ob/Gyn) Consultant revently and told him about this and he prescribed me a tablet called Ranitidine (its also available over the counter in the UK as Zantac - not sure what its called in America sorry). He says its OK to use in pregnancy - heregularly gives it to women in labour. It apparently works by stopping your stomach producing so much acid.
And what a lifesaver it has been! No heartburn! I've been able to sleep properly for the first time in weeks!!!
I was also on a tablet called Cyclizine to help my 24/7n* in the first trimester (they had to give me something in the end because I was getting into a terrible state about it). That really helped as well.
I'd advise anyone who has problems with heartburn and not being able to tolerate over the counter antacids to try Ranitidine. It has made me feel human again!!
