Well now, Im 37 and cant drive. I never bothered to learn despite getting my provisional licence at age 18, as I live in a reasonable big town and so on.

I am missing tonight a big awards party for the company I work for as everyon is going by coach and I soooooo cdnt do that, as apart from hating travelling, coming back everyone will be drunbk and there will be potential v*.

Anyway, I will stop waffling, my friend at work said why dont I learn to drive, that way I cd drive places and be in control (shes knows about my emet) she says it may help me.

    What do you all think?

Do you all drive? Do you find you can eat and drive because you are in control?

Can you only eat when out and be in a car becos you are driving?

I would be grateful for anyones advice and or comments as I dont want to spend all that money learning ifI end up not driving anyway!!!

Thanx in advance and sorry for the looooonnngggg post.

    Hey laney,

Im currently learning to drive and i have found it tough at some points (reversing round corners grr!) but now i love it. The independance is great and being the driver does make me feel much better about being in the car. Go for it, try a few lessons and if you don't like it, it doesnt matter!

    Good luck x

Yeah, getting over wanting to drive myself everywhere was actually something I had to work towards.

I feel so much safer driving myself because I'm in control. If I need to pull over, I can do it without having to explain to anyone why. (That's never happened because I needed to v*, but it makes me feel better knowing that if it did happen I would be able to).

What helped me get to where I could ride without being the one driving was riding the bus at campus since there are frequent stops, so I can more easily get off if I start panicing. Then I worked my way up to going on long trips with my brother driving. He's 17 and I'm 20, so I felt confidant that if I found I absolutley couldn't take it I could brow beat him into letting me drive the rest of the way. Pleasantly enough, it was never a problem, and I managed to make the whole trip as a passenger.

I got my license when I was 17. I like driving myself everywhere because I can leave when ever I want and don't have to explain anything to anyone.

My mom was 35 when she got her license, so don't worry about waitng so long!

i am learning to drive right now and i really like it because even if i'm nervous when i get in the car i concentrate so much on the road that it usually goes right out of my head.

    Good luck!

Learning to drive was one of the best things I ever did. It took me 3 years because I kept stopping and starting my lessons as I had major anxiety before them but it is so worth it. My car failed it's MOT yesterday and I will be without it until the middle of next week which I am gutted about as driving gives so much independence.
Today is the tomorrow I dreaded yesterday and I\'m ok.

hey. i am 20 years old and just got my license. i had put it off for so
long, but it felt great to finally get it. the funny thing is the day i failed
the test (i passed when i took it a week later), my anxiety came
back. (it had previously been low with no attacks. now i get them all
the time.) i don't know if there was any correlation there. : /
anyways, driving is often stressful and anxiety provoking for me, but
it's great that you're in control and can pull over whenever you feel
the need. it's much worse having anxiety on the road when you're
NOT in the driver's seat. so i'd say learn to drive! i think it will make
you feel a lot more confident in general.
