Ugh, I have had a cold for the past couple of days and it has manifested itself in a really bad cough. It is kind of dry and chesty and it's one of those ones where once you start you can't stop. It's making me feel really gaggy and I wondered if anyone has any ideas about something which might ease it? I am using vicks rub at night and drinking hot juice in the morning but I can't take cough medicine because it makes me gag. Any ideas?

    Hi there!

I've got the exact same thing--in fact, this morning I woke up feeling a little better and not coughing as much. I had the lovely "neverending cough until you gag" too, and the only thing that seemed to work was something to drink, whether it be hot tea or water. Sometimes I have issues with taking to much cough syrups (it tends to make me a little n* if I take too much over the course of a day) so now I stick to tablets, like Advil Cold or something. I'm not sure if they have this in the UK, but they have Robitussin Cough capsules here in the States that work wonderfully, and don't make me feel yucky. Cough lozenges like Halls are good too--I like the sugar free kind for some reason. And remember to keep drinking!
Hope this helps you somewhat, and if it it gets worse or more uncomfortable see a doctor.
    Feel better!!

I had something simillar recently. Highly unpleasant. I took neocitron the lemon flavored, I can promise you if cough medicine makes you gag that you don't want to try the cherry neocitron. I also used cough drops to keep my throat moist and if you're nose is also stuffy and you have a lot of post nasal drip you can try boiling some water in a large pot, dip a butter knife into your vicks vapo rub and then dissolve it into the boiling water. Then get a towel and hang your head over the pot with the towel covering your head and pot. It really clears your sinuses and can help with the post nasal drip.

Something that always helps both my n* and my colds is honey lemon cough drops. I know they don't taste the best, but they work wonders! I take them even when I dont have a sore throat and I'm just feeling n*! Hope your feeling better soon!!!!!
