I really hate how the media likes to blow things out of proportion. Especially when it has anything to do with germs and the like. Sure, they're just trying to help out the general public and make us all aware of the dangersand make sure we know, etc, but come on! Really, a lot of this stuff should be considered "DUH" things....like at cosmetic counters. Don't just stick your finger into a container...Don't just try on the lipstick....And wash your hands. Always wash your hands. I'm sorry, but news stories, like the ones below, just get me all skittish and nervous. I guess I could AVOID them, but once I see GERMS in the subject line, I click away....

I hate that too! I remember a few years ago when there was this huge health scare in Sydney because all these germs were found in our drinking water and could make us really sick. Everyone panicked of course and rushed out to buy bottled water or started to boil it before they drank it- it was a real pain, and lasted months. It turned out that these germs and bacteria had been in the water for years and years- and there was no need to panick because you become immune to them after drinking the water for a certain amount of time. It was all the hype and sensationalism- honestly they will do anything for a reaction from the public, and good ratings! It's so annoying.

I also can't stand it when I see the ads for current affairs shows, and they talk about how they caught out some person who's doing some petty wrong-doing, while they refuse to delve into the big issues. I just think yeah it's wrong, but why should I care about some laundromat who rips off customers, and not be informed on things that really matter?! It wrong that there's these rich people who have all this control over media presentation, and that therefore we don't have a hope of seeing the truth- and have to take whatever we're told with a grain of salt... It'd be so good if the media were honest! But there's not a hope in hell of that happening as long as there's people with money and power.

Sorry that was abit of a rant lol but yeah I agree with what you said- they go overboard for the sake of ratings, and end up just completely freaking everyone out.
