I went to the urologist on Wednesday to have a check up on my kidney stones. I still have 3 in my right kidney, and I found out that the one I was passing on the left at the beginning of October is still there. It's stuck, not moving at all which is why is doesn't hurt. The doctor gave me a medication called Flomax that is supposed to help open all of the tubing, so to speak, so it's easier to pass.

So I was doing my usual side effect check, (n* and v* aren't listed) but I read a little about the drug. It is primarily for men with prostate problems. As a side effect (for men) it talks about fertility problems. Then, in the pregnancy/breasfeeding section it says that the drug should not be prescribed to women. I'm kind of worried about the effects on women's fertility, you know? If it effects men, it could possibly effect women and there aren't studies out there, so should I trust it? I dont' know what to do. Should I just try drinking TONS of water and hope that moves it out? If it doesn't pass, I probably will have to have surgery. I don't know what to do. I wouln't think my docotr would have prescribed it to me if she thought it could cause problems since I am young and do want more kids. I just don't want to be the guinea pig, you know?

Hi there!!!

What I would do is double check with your doctor about it. If you're ever in doubt about a medication, that is definitely the best thing to do. I'm sure she could help ease your mind about it and address your concerns, or at the very least possibly prescribe something else for you.
I had an issue once with a prescription, and it turned out she had given me the wrong thing. Not a huge deal because it was something very similar, but I was still glad I checked.
I'm sure your doctor can help rest your mind a little on this--I'd give her a call!!
Hope this helps!!!

Yeah I'd check again w/ your doctor just to be safe. It may have been an oversight or it may not affect women the same as men.
