Hello all...thiose old and those new. I haven't been on since last spring, for a variety of reasons. But, anrecap on me, I am 24 weeks pregnant (that is new), my 5 year old son started Kindergarten, and I live in Canada.

I got severely lucky this pregnancy, and although I was n*, I had no v*ing for morning sickness! Thank Goodness!

With my son starting school, I was pretty anxious about the whole sv thing. We have gotten by with no viruses! BUT, today he had a sore throat, and the teacher called and asked me to come get him, so that the whole class doesn't get sick! Well, when I got there, there was 4 kids in "seclusion" besides my son who had "stomach problems". There were 7 who didn't come at all. Granted, it is colder than snot here (-37*C) so buses weren't running, ect. Tonight I don't feel well, and I am FREAKING out that he will get the dreaded sv. I even tried persuading him to go stay at his dad's tonight (I feel like such a bad parent). Every time he is quiet or anything I think "oh no, he's not feeling well". So freaking out!

    Thanks everyone for listening!

Hi! I am sure you will be fine and I am sure your son will be fine. And trust me you are not a bad parent. This is a horrible phobia but we all seem to come through it okay!!! I even try to get my kids to stay home from school sometimes when I have heard that stuff is going around. But they like school so I have to let them go so I of coarse spend my whole winter worrying.Oh and congrats on the baby!!! ~Brandi~

Hey Crystal- welcome back! And congrats on your pregnancy- I know before you left the board you were thinking about trying to get pregnant again.....I see it worked out!

Just treat him as normally as possible- give him something for his throat if he needs it, but don't assume the worst when there is no guarantee that it will manifest itself. You will just get yourself worked up, which you don't need in your present condition.

If his throat is still bothering him tomorrow, you should bring him for a swab- it may be strep, in which case after they treat it he will feel 100% better.

    Hope things work out!

Hi Crystal, I remember you! Congrats on your pregnancy, and getting through with no v*!!
That is actually really good that the school is sending kids home who aren't feeling well. It will cut down on things getting spread around.
I hate the fear when one of my kids is not themselves, or I think they have been exposed.
Chances are he will be fine, since it sounds like his school is pretty responsible about illness. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Hey! Long time no see! Congrats on the pregnancy!

How is your son feeling now? What I am wondering is if maybe strep is going around? It seems like many kids have tummy aches with strep throat. Just remember all of the things that could cause these kids to have tummy aches. There is post nasal drip, ear infections, constipation, nervous stomach... A friend of mine's neice was vomiting in school the other day and they discovered her ear was completly infected and that was causing her to be sick.

I know there is no way to know for sure what's going on in his class, but just remember that you are a great mom and capable of anything that comes your way. Keeping that in mind, what are the chances that anything is going to happen? Remember all the times in the past when you've thought 'what if' and worried yourself for no reason at all. Just try to let it go and relax.

How are you and your son feeling now?

Hi guys! Thanks for the well wishes, and the welcome back!

Isaac is ok, so far. I had a bit of a panicky moment last though. He started coughing, and coughing, and coughing. I kept trying to give him something for it, so the cough would calm, but he is unreasonable when he is tired. Luckily, he took it, and then slept the rest of the night with no problems. His throat is still sore, but it is SO cold here, and it is dry, so it takes a few minutes in the mornign to help with that. I had strep 3 times int he spring, and I know how bad it hurts, so I am sure he would be doing more than complaining about it. If it continues, maybe I will take him in.

I am still debating about whether or not to send him to school tommorrow. He goes Mon and Wed (alternating Fri). I almost want to keep him home for the simple fact that I want this bug to go through the classroom without getting him. BUT, his teachers last day is tommorrow (she is VERY pregnant) and the new teacher will be there for a visit day. I hate not to send him, to see his teacher who has been so wonderful, off and wish her well. Grrrrr, so confused!

    Crystal

PS...It's another boy, due March 17th, but I am really hoping to go the end of Feb, since Isaac was 10 days early and almost 8 lbs!!!

Congratulations and welcome back! How's his cough today? If they sent him home for it and he still has it I would think you'd havea good enough reason not to send him. They seem to be pretty viligant about sending sick kids home so it's probably OK to send him if his cough is better.
