Hello! Ever since I can remember, I have always had a phobia with vomiting and up until today, I had no idea that there was actually a name for it! I am not only afraid of throwing up myself, but I get panic attacks when someone else throws up. The first time this happened was in Kindergarten when a girl threw up in the cafeteria and although she was at a different table, I stood up and starting crying and screaming hysterically. This would often happen in elementary school and now I can controlmy hysteriaa littlebetter. I was just wondering if ya'll are only afraid of vomiting or if it scares you when someone else does it? Thanks for your help!

Welcome! I know when I found this site I could not believe there were so many people that had this phobia like me. It was a relief to know I wasn't totally insane. My problem is with me. I do not want to throw up. It doesn't bother me if others do it as long as they are not contagious. I have a friend that totally doesn't mind doing it. She would rather do it than have a headache. Can you believe that??? Anyway I am sure you will like it here. I am kinda new too and everyone seems really great and supportive!!!! ~Brandi~

Thank you so much, I feel at home already. People often thought I was weird because I know that i've thrown up 6 times and the last time was Oct 22, 1997 at 8:30 PST. I am in college and it is very stressful for me to be around people who drink, even though I drink as well. I wish I could care for my friends when they are vomiting, but I often leavethem hanging and have to call someone else to the scene. I spent the night at someone's house after a party and I woke up to someone throwing up and I got my stuff, ran, and slept in the car! The only time I can be around being vomiting is when I am intoxicated.

Do you have any suggestions on how to cope with this stress? When my roommate has been sick, I have slept in vacant rooms! I don't want to go on living this way.

a lot of emetophobics can remember the exact date and times they v*ed by the way, if you want, you can just say v* instead of actually typing it out. I've found that it saves a lot of time

also, I fear both myself and others, but i originally only feared others. Most of us on here fear both.

I discovered emet about 4 years ago but never pursued it. I dealt
with my anxiety but never the phobia. I only fear vomiting
myself, or as my therapist tells me, I'm scared of my response to
vomiting, not vomiting itself. When I did find out about Emet I
was overwhelmed with relief, to find out that it wasn't just me 'being
silly' as so many people would say or 'well no one LIKE throwing up'
which drives me insane. We all deal with the stress differently,
some are on meds others just quietly put up with it but I myself try to
be as vocal about it with friends and family as possible and everyone
has been very patient and understanding. In fact, its kinda fun
at parties to share the phobia with others, most people find it funny
or at least interesting! It does get better btw, it takes a lot
of work but it does get better. I'm kinda new here too but
everyone is really friendly and helpful! Enjoy!

I (being the nerd I am) was surfing around Wikipedia and came across a list of phobias and saw "fear of vomit" on the list and I was like "haha, all of my friends do say I have pukeophobia". So I clicked it and it was like it was written about me. I ended up on a different forum for a while before I found this awesome site.
I have a fear of myself vomiting and others vomiting. Yeah, you can type vomit as v* but I feel like it gives it more power. I used to type it v* but I'm not afraid of a word.
I hope you like it here. It sure does provide a lot of support.

Welcome to the site! I get horrible panic attacks seeing or hearing someone v* almost worse than when I want to. I just don't get it and hate this phobia, but we are all here to help each other.

New Slang--I always said that I had "pukophobia", too! I think I discovered the real name doing a search like 6 years ago or so...
