I'm sure this has been discussed before but could not find a post.

Since sv* is a virus of the small intestines instead of the stomach per se, logic would suggest that the sv* has to have an enemy. A blocker if you will to keep it from propagating in the small intestines. Clearly our bodyies are great at producing antibodies that knock the sucker out in about 24-48 hours but it comes at a price with possible v*.

You would think that with all the herbalist out there that they could find an herb or food that blocks the reproduction of the sv* while it is in the body.

Oddly enough, my friend who owns the restsrant I ate at today was told by his doctor to drink 2 beers. This was while he was six into his third day of sv*. He said that after her drank the beers it was gone. I can not even think of drinking a beer while having sv*

Did it really work or was he just at the end of the cycle of the sv*?

Anyone here with a medical background who could shed light on that?

I've heard that it's a good idea to eat Brazil nuts as the selenium they contain is supposed to prevent viruses from multiplying in the body. Also, garlic tablets are said to help prevent sv*s. I never go through a winter without them!

The garlic tablets I take are odour-controlled and enteric coated so they get to work right in the gut. I haven't had any complaints about the smell!! They're from Holland & Barrett (do you have them in the US?) and in thetwo wintersI've been taking them, I haven't had any sv*s - not even after being exposed to my childrens' sv*s. My partner, a non-emet, doesn't take them and has had sv*s. That's all the proof I need!!

OMG I eat a ton of Brazil nuts! They are my fav! When I was in Israel, I found bags of unsalted Brazil nuts. Just Brazil nuts, no "mixed nut combos" so I bought 10 bags to takwe home!

    Johnlp, you are hilarious!!!!

My mother alsotakes garlic pills quite often and hasn't hada stomach virusin I'd say nearly 10 years. My late grandmother also used to eat garlic everyday and she was as strong as a horse-cast iron stomach even around sick people. By the way,my mother is Honduran, not Italian..(haha) but I know most Italians cook with garlic( hmm, and I LOVE Italian food!).I bought somegarlicpills awhile ago and haven't taken them but this makes me think I should start. I have always heard about Garlic being anti-viral.

Dreamer- How much garlic do you take per day? I have some, and I'm not sure how much to take it? BTW, if anyone starts on a garlic tab regimen, it can give you heartburn, so keep that in mind. I have always taken them with a meal to minimize this.

Garlic does have anti-viral properties. It is really good for you.

You can get odorless garlic too!

Daffodil - the tablets I take contain 650mg of garlic powder, and i have one a day. I hadn't heard they can give you heartburn, but I always take them with a meal too! ( I've just checked the packet and it advises you to take them with food!)

Johnlp - Good luck with the garlic & Brazils. It's amazing what they'll do for your peace of mind!! And to think most people take them for a healthy heart!

SORRY! That should have read 6500mgs! Which is probably why I only need one a day.

I take garlic tablets and no one has ever complained of them making me smell. You just have to get the right kind. The beneficial ammino acid in garlic is Allicin, so be sure you get that kind when you go to the vitamin store.

I have also heard that cilantro is good for warding off sv's and for fp. Not sure how it works but I know it is a green herb or plant. Anyone heard of this too??? I will try garlic too. I cook with it but I don't think I use enough. AND (just remembered) and Indian friend of mine says turmeric is also good for digestive distress of all kinds.</font>
