I just want to alert everyone who has dogs of my experience today:
My chihuahua Ethel is just like a goat---she eats EVERYTHING!!! Whereas, my other chihuahua Lucy doesn't eat anything but her food and some table food. Well, today I had a tube of oil paint (for canvases) on my floor and she ate through the tube and ingested some of the paint. I thought nothing of it, since she eats stuff (before I catch her) and she's fine. Well, she must have eateb alot of it, because she started to v* (5 times total), and it was all white (color of the paint). I figured it was good that she was getting it out of her system. I mean it, from one minute to the next, I looked at her and she looked like death! Her face was really pink and swollen! Her eyes were almost swollen shut, her mouth was swollen, and she had raised, red blotches all over her head and face! I was concerned that her thraot would close, because she was obviously having a bad allergic reaction to the paint. It was the scariest thing I've seen!! We rushed her to the animal hospital where they gave her a shot of diphenhydramine (active ingredient in Benadryl) and observed her for about 30 minutes. Thank God she was OK--my daughter andI were crying so hard, Ethel looked so awful and was lethargic! We got to bring her home and had to give her 1/2 tab of Benadryl tonight, and she should be 100% by tomorrow. My point is, that oil paints could probably cause this reaction in animals, so please don't leave them lying around like I did! If she were to have had this reaction overnight, she may have died because we wouldn't have noticed! We are sooooooo glad that she's OK. I just wanted to let you guys know this, hopefully it's useful info![]()
