Another post made me think of this. A girl at work was yelling at me for not getting a flu shot because I have a baby that is too young to get one herself. Well, the reason I haven't gotten one is that I am scared of getting sick from it because I have heard it making people sick before (including my husband). I know you can't actually catch the flu from a flu shot, but I have heard of people v* after it. Is it just coincidence? Even the girl that was telling me to get one said it made her husband v*. I told her that I had heard people get sick from it and she said her husband didn't get really sick, he just got v* sick (in my mind that IS really sick!). I know I should get it, but I'm trying to get the courage up to face the risk of v*. Anyone have any info or expereince? Nothing I read on the internet lists v* as a side effect, just muscle aches and that sort of thing.

Total and complete coincidence. You don't v* from it (unless you are alergic to eggs, and you shouldn't have it in the first place). Also, the flu shot has NO LIVE VIRUSES. It cannot make you sick. My dh says the same thing, and I just roll my eyes. He blames my son's flu before x-mas on the flu shot I got in October. It is up to you if you want it. I just do. I never did get the flu my son had.

The only reason ppl get sick shortly after getting a flu shot is b/c they already had it, or, it is a different strain than what is on the shot, or, it hasn't kicked in completely. It takes up to 2 weeks for the flu shot to give you full immunity from the strains in it.

Hope this helps.

Are you prone to getting sick often? And is your daughter in daycare?
Why is this woman harrassing you so much? I think if you have a strong
immune system and don't get sick very often, then why bother getting a
flu shot. Flu shots definietly help but if your already strong, it will
not help that much more.

You should do what's right for you and not because people tell you you
should. It makes me angry how peole come down on others for certain
things.

I got my first one this year! I am glad I did. The only thing you feel is a little soreness at the injection site. They are using a different vaccine now. The old one used to give you aches but that was it. It does not cause v* that was just coincidence. Everyone in my family has had one every year for as long as I remember. Don't be scared. They are A ok!!

You CANNOT get the flu from the flu shot. It is IMPOSSIBLE! Its made from dead viruses.

You CAN get a low grade temp (its unusual though). A lot of people say you can get the flu or say they got sick after getting it but they were getting sick before the shot. The flu shot used to be a live virus but not anymore.

Feel rest assured you will not get it...REALLY! Also your baby can get the flu shot at 6 months old. They get it in split doses.

My daughter and i just got our flu shots on Friday. We were a little tired on Saturday, and had a temp. of 99.2 at the highest. Neither of us were remotely n* and we didn't even have pain or soreness at the injection site. Hope this helps reassure you a bit.

Me and my bf had ours this year for the first time. He bleed a little
and then that was it. He got bruised and his arm was sore. My arm was
sore with no bruise, and that was it. Im glad we did them and we will
probably next year too.

I have it because I have a tendency to get pneumonia when I'm run down. Getting flu would probably lead to this so it's precautionary. My son has asthma, so he gets it too, as he is deemed to be at risk of serious problems should he get flu. My daughter doesn't have the vaccine as she is not in the "at risk" group. Apart form sore arms, neither my son nor I have had any side effects.

My personal opinion is this: If you THINK it will make you sick, it will. If you THINK it will prevent you from getting the flu, it will. I THINK the mind is an extremely powerful thing. I have never had a flu shot, but I know people who swear by them! I also know people who swear they make them sick. They are probably both right. I think that woman should mind her own business!

Thanks for your advice everyone. To answer some of your questions, no, I'm not prone to getting the flu. I'm not really worried about me getting the flu anyway, I just don't want to get it and give it to my daughter before her immune system is well enough developed. And, no, she isn't in daycare. At the moment is is either with me, my husband, or one of her grandmas - no other kids around. I do plan on starting an in-home daycare in the future though, then she will be around other kids, but probably not until after flu season is over.

I know you can't actually get influenza from the shot and I'm really not afraid of needles, bleeding, bruising, soreness, any of that. It's just the v*. My daughter just turned 6 months old yesterday and she has a doctor's appointment this afternoon. Maybe she'll get the shot herself then I won't have to worry about it.

I think after having the flu this year I'll be getting one every year from now on. I know it won't prevent bronchitis from coming along with it like it did, but at least it will make being ill a little more bearable. And the bronchitis wasn't very severe at all, I barely coughed but when I did I brought up a ton of gunk which cleared out my lungs pretty quick. My congestion cleared yesterday and I can breathe clear! It's gotta be worth it to get the shot. I hate needles but I'll do anything to keep from getting the flu again!

I got a flu shot this year. It's my third year getting it. I've never got sick from it. Never even felt remotely bad. As a matter of fact I usually go out for lunch at a restaurant afterward because the hospital where my dad works offers it to employees and their familes for cheap, so I drive down there, get it and then we go out to eat.

Maybe it has to do with how you usually react to vaccines. Has your husband gotten sick from other vaccines in the past?

If so then you should probably go by your personal history. If you've never had problems with vaccines before, you probably aren't at risk for having a bad reaction to this one unless you're allergic to eggs or chicken (then you shouldn't have it).
