I have a quesion, I believe I read somewhere on this site that once you contract a SV*, you are immune to it for that season's strain? Does this mean I can rest a little easier that my kids won't get it again this winter? Thanks so much! Hoping that is true, I don't know if my nerves could handle another outbreak in my home.

IDK, some people say you can get different strains so you are never immune. But, anybody I know that has ever gotten an sv are usually good for at least a year, but usually more.

By the way, I read your story about the outbreak in your home and you were really brave. Be proud of yourself and know you are stronger than you think you are!

Well the unfortunate thing is there are so many different strains that circulate at varias times. Sad but true, one year my dtr had 2 sv's* within 2 1/2 wks of each other.

I'd sure like to believe that, and that's sort of what I'd always thought. My kids have never gotten a sv more than once a year. I always relax if they get it, afterwards of course. I'm sure there are different strains out there, but I would think in your area, there would be one prevalent one and that is the one they got!

Thanks so much for your honesty, I am truly hoping that they won't get the sv* again.. when I dropped my son off at school this morning, I was almost in tears because of fear he will catch it again ... sheesh I am so silly.

He can't catch the same strain again - he'll be immune to it. However if a different strain shows up sometime later in the year, unfortunately everyone is still vulnerable to it. Most areas seem to report on the news just one whack of it per year though...so that's good!
