    I've always wondered this.
    Especially in pregnancy.

Is there any way to permanently paralyze this?(that sounded stupid, lol)

And they say to take things such as ginger ale and such if you have a upset stomach. Can ginger prevent you from v*?

Other than the few times I actually did v*,if my tummy was ever feeling grumbly it would always result in d* but some people I know v* for everything.I'm glad my stomach is not weak/intolerable like theirs.Edited by: xmdslatx

I think it's our bodies way of getting rid of potentially harmful things we've ingested...but with an illness...our body is just confused or something. Bah...that sounds dumb. lol

With pregnancy it's hormones, well, and the prenatal vitamins don't help. Why those things trigger it...wish I knew.

It'd be great if there were a way to permanently turn that bodies reaction off.

I always wondered why some people v* all the time...and also I'm glad my daughter and I do not have a weak stomach. I know lots of people who's kids are like that, I couldn't imagine mine being that way, or how frustrating that would be!Edited by: laylamommy

When I was in elementary school it seemed like kids v* everyday! egh.

One lady I know says that her step daughter had the stomach bug 5 times in 2 years! it would drive me crazy.

Whenever you have a SV its the body's overreaction to the inflammation of the small intestine that the norovirus causes. Probably with bacterial food poisoning its the toxins made by the bacteria. Some people just have something wrong with them that causes them to v* a lot. My brother's girlfriend is like that and they can't find a danged thing wrong with her. That's got to be an emetophobe's worst nightmare.

In addition to whats been said I have heard friends and family memebers say they "let themselves" v to feel better. It isn't scary to them and they feel better after. In fact one friend told me when she was pregnant she could have probably not v but she felt so sick she wanted to.

I'm another who lets themself v* if I'm feeling bad enough.
The problem is from the time I decide I'm ready to v* and the time I finally can v* is usually 12+ hours.
It just proves how strong our brains are at preventing it eventhough one part of our brain is saying "ok lets get this show on the road" something else is still preventing it.

Thats how hard it really is for an emet to v* so you dont have to worry too much .

In pregnancy, it's definitely the hormones and also the liver function. You can usually ease m/s with pregnancy by taking unisom and B6 together, and also milk thistle. The milk thistle helps the liver remove toxins, thus helping the m/s. HTH!!

My pregnancy rocked. The only time I got sick was when I was on the beach and it was so hot I could barely breath and I panicked and had a bit of an anxiety attack and got sick. Other than that I had no sickness whatsoever. I always heard that you pooped and vomited during delivery but I didn't get that far. I ended up having a c-section but still never got sick. I gagged and almost dry heaved when I was given my spinal but didn't actually do it.Edited by: alycat27

I let myself because it's not so much the act itself that scares me. Well, anymore.

Some people definitely have stronger stomachs than others - and often it seems those with stronger stomachs are prone to being emetophobes.

Even before I was 9 years old (before I became emet) I only v* twice since I could remember - most of my friends seemed to v* all the time in comparison. I guess I wasn't used to it - I'm sure there are lots of others on these forums with similar experiences.

The only time in the last 14 years I was close to v* was when my drink was spiked in June and I was semi-conscious and dry retched. I was so out of it and felt so rotten I actually wanted to v* by that point but nothing at all came up - typical!
