    <DIV>~September 11, 2001... Innocence Lost and Heroes Born~</DIV>
    <DIV></DIV>
    <DIV>A solitary candle, a humble quiet token,</DIV>
<DIV>The merest spark of hopefulness that left the night unbroken.</DIV>
<DIV>It whispered to the empty night of innocence to brief,</DIV>
<DIV>of bravery midst adversity, of anguished souls in grief.</DIV>
    <DIV>Through tear-dimmed eyes it shimmered. a solemn lonely flame,</DIV>
<DIV>It's whisper caught the evening breeze and soon more candles came.</DIV>
<DIV>A thousand burning candles, a golden shining sea,</DIV>
    <DIV>lit a nation's darkened heart, revealing unity.</DIV>
    <DIV>~Deborah Whipp~</DIV>
    <DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I know this may not mean as much to many of you, but I know it means a whole lot for others so please bare with me for just a moment and please know, if you'd prefer not read... you don't have to. </DIV>
<DIV>Three years ago, on September 11, 2001, over 1,000 men, women, and children lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Centersand the Pentagon. The images from that day are forever etched in my mind... I'll never forget waking up and turning on the news only to see the second plane hit... to see people running for their lives choking from smoke and dust... to see people helplessly flinging themselves from the windows of the trade towers... firefighters carrying a priest who had died because he'd stayed to give last rites to the fallen... and oh so many more to horrible to speak of. Those who died in the attacks were not only Americans, but they were from all walks of life, all different backgrounds, and they all died together that day.</DIV>
<DIV>*Please take a moment to remember all those who lost their lives on the attacks of 9-11, as well as all of those who have died since then, not only in America, but also in other countries. For all of those who lost their lives in war, and all of those who've given their lives for their countries especially recently in Iraq, and Russia... God Bless each and everyone of you. I can only pray that someday we will know a world where there is no war.*</DIV>
    <DIV></DIV>
    <DIV>And in special tribute...</DIV>
<DIV>*It is human instinct to run away from fire. Firefighters train themselves to run toward it, determined to save the lives of people they may never have met before. When they enter a burning building, they don't stop to ask the race or religion of the people inside. They don't wonder whether a person is rich or poor. They are motivated by a pure and profound love for human life... and it is that spirit which makes them so great. ~Rudolph Guiliani~</DIV>
    <DIV></DIV>
<DIV>*In memory of the 343 bravefirefighters who, on September 11, 2001 ran into those two buildings while everyone else was running out and in doing somade the ultimate sacrifice. And to all others who made that same sacrifice or some other sacrifice that day and the weeks that followed...You will never be forgotten... you are, each and every single one of you, heroes... forever.*</DIV>
    <DIV></DIV>
    <DIV>God Bless you all...</DIV>

Giving up doesn\'t always mean that we are weak. Sometimes it just means that we are strong enough to let go.

I was in class when it happened. Horrible.
.I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again. I just want to feel deep in my own world. But I’m so lonely I don’t even want to be with myself. <3

Wow, I can't believe 3 years has really passed since then... I remember I was in5thgrade at the time, and we were celebrating our teacher's birthday when the principle came in and told us.

Oh, and on that same day my brother's friend's dog ran out in front of a car. That car happened to be going to the Boston airport, and the woman inside was to get on one of the two planes that was hijacked. The woman stopped and stayed with the dog and made sure it was brought to the animal hospital. She also missed her flight. The dog also made a full recovery.

I still remember the exact moment I discovered what had happened. I was 18 and just got home early from college. I think it was around 2.30pm GMT (only 20 minutes or so after it happened)..... I got in and the tv was switched onto Sky News, but my family were out. I just sat down in shock and didn't move from the TV for hours.

What a tragedy, I dont know what else to call it. Just
beyond sad and horrible. I remember, I was 8 weeks pregnant with my
daughter and I had walked into the restaurant near where I had worked
to buy a muffin. They had the tv's on and I just couldnt believe my eye
and ears for that matter. It was a frightening day for everyone. I also
feel horrible for those who DID survive the tragedy. You can never get
over something so horrible like that. I cant even imagine it. However
afterwards I do remember hearing all of these eerie stories though of
people who were about to go to work, who worked near or in the Trade
Centers on THAT particular day and couldnt make it for one reason or
another. Like for instance, I cant remember who told me this but
this person had a cousin who worked somewhere in one of the buildings
and this person apparently was VERY punctual everyday. Except on that
particular day the alarm didnt go off and he or she slept in!!! It
never ever happened before that. I have heard of stories of busses
breaking down on that day too and because of that people didnt make it
to work just on that day. My SIL's sister also goes to school right
around there and just for that day too she wasnt around that area. I
also heard from somewhere that the DAY before it happened some people
were let go of their jobs for no apparent reason and of course they at
the time thought it was the worst day of their lives. However I dont
think they thought that way the day after that. So its really scary
when you think of that. However talk about amazing fortune. For those
who did lose their lives or loved ones in that horrible tragedy, I am
speechless. Whenever I think of instances like that, I feel shameful
for making this stupid phobia a big deal. Thats all I have to say.

The websiteabove is a very beautiful website that shows that this tragedy was not just an "American" tragedy, but aworldwide tragedy, affecting many different countries and families. 82 countries lost citizens in the attacks including the country the attackers were from. They weren't just "Americans" who died... they were all, each and everyone of them,HUMAN BEINGS!None of them deserved to be alive anymore than the others, andcertainly, none of themdeserved to die!

So while I too shall sayGod Bless America...I shall also sayGOD BLESS US ALL!

Thats a lovely poem kentuckygalrk,it touched my heart so much.....well for me i remember this dayas ifit was only yesterday....I'd just had a phone call from my brother on the same day to say his wife didn't love him anymore and wanted him out and a divorce.he was devastated....something so out of the blue and then hours later the worst thing that could happen happened!!!! 9/11....So this day is not a good day to remember in some ways as it brought so much pain and heartache to so many people across the world and for my brother who's life fell apart on this same day......My thoughts and heart goes out to everyone who has suffered with such a tragic loss and for those who survied.....God bless America

That website is extremely moving. Ive literally spent today thinking about hardly anything else. For half an hour this afternoon, i spent that time praying to god that people will be okay and not so sad and when i was watching the news over lunch, i really felt like breaking down. Its been a very sad day and the thing that really gets to me the most is a drama last week on tv from the terrorists point of view. It made me feel sick watching it. I just thought "How dare they feel they have the right to take control of peoples lives." I actually felt so angry watching it and this afternoon it just broke me down a bit. I just want god to bless america and help it in all its footsteps today!

God Bless and thank you for the poem!

If any of you have the video of the concert that Garth Brooks did in Central Park (in about 1994), go to the song 'We Shall be Free' and watch the end - I don't know if it's real or a special effect, but a HUGE banner saying Freedom is unfurled between the Towers - I hadn't noticed it before, but watched the video a couple of weeks after 9-11 and sat with it paused, awe-struck, with tears pouring down my face - such a powerful image, coupled with the words of the song...

My thoughts were and are with those affected by 9-11.

wow - i dont think we will EVER forget what happened that day. i certainly havent. Its so far the biggest thing thats ever happened in my life time - and hopefully the last. but these days i doubt it will be the last. i mean look at Bali/Madrid/Russia last week - it just makes you think what is happening to the world. I just keep wondering when we are next...

I just cant believe it happened really - i really CANT believe it - even three years on.
