I'm having the worst anxiety ever and im considering antidepressants. Can anyone recommend some that have helped their anxiety and not made them nauseous as a side effect. Im in the UK.

all i can really do is give you MY experience with my anti-depressant.

i take citalopram. and altho i did have a touch of nausea for a week as i started them, it wasnt very bad AT ALL, and cos i knew what it was (just a side effect of the anti-depressant) i pretty much knew i wasnt gnna v* + so i was ok with that.

but this drug has REALLY helped for my depression and anxiety. and even OCD tendencies. its a gr8 drug in my opinion.

but make sure u go to ur GP and discuss what drug will suit ur needs.

    good luck

i'm on propranolol again after a break from it for
almost 2 years! I find this one really good at chilling me out as
its a beta blocker it prevents the palpitations. Like Jenneh said
though if you explain your symptoms to your GP i'm sure they can give
you the most appropriate med. HTH</font>

    Hey Gemma

well lets see - Prozac didnt help me at all -no side effects tho. I was also on propanolol for a year and a halve - i dont think it helped much tho - no side effects tho.

I am now on Efexor (venlafaxine) and this has helped me soooo much. i did feel nauseas - kinda like Jenneh said - i knew it ws a side effect so it didnt panic me too much. it was work a few days tho coz the drug has helped me loads. but now im trying to reduce it and this is poving a little difficult! i found the FAQ on the drug im taking if u wanna read - but i guess discussing it with ur doctor is probably the best thing coz there are so many others.

I've been taking Elavil for my headaches and it hasn't had any bad side effects as far as nausea or anything, however I found that especially when I first started taking it I felt much more depressed and just didn't care about anything. It was def. not a fun experience, but it got better with time. It's not a drug I'd recommend though.

Giving up doesn\'t always mean that we are weak. Sometimes it just means that we are strong enough to let go.

I've had Propranolol (though it's not an antidepressant) And I think that it did help in as much as I felt it was helping, and helped me help myself... (erm.. :P)

I was on citalopram for 2 years, but I didn't find it did much. No side effects either though. (Though I personally didn't notice a difference in the way I was feeling, people who saw me a lot said that they did notice a change in me) Anyway I'm off those now. I have Venlefaxine/Efexor but I've not started taking it yet. My GP said that it was a very effective medicine after about two weeks to a month, but before then you'll only really get side effects.Edited by: tomvickery

I've been on Paxil, Zoloft and Celexa and none of them gave me any nausea. When I started Luvox I was taking 25MG's a day to start and I did have a very low grade nausea but it didn't bug me that much. Luvox treats depression and OCD symptoms which is why the psychiatrist picked it for me. I can't say if it works or not because I've never taken it properly. If you're really worried about nausea from anti depressants ask for a medication that prevents nausea. My psychiatrist gave me Atarax and it prevents and treats nausea and also anxiety. Thats about the only pill I'll take that she prescribed to me. I'm stubborn when it comes to taking medication for my depression, ocd, and self harm. Well, hope I helped.

Is Atarax the trade name? Do you know the name of the actual drug?
