hi guys, i've just been to the doctors who have said i probably have mumps, as the glands round my jaw are all swollen and achey.
i am freaking out, i have looked up symptoms, v* doesnt seem to be listed but i read that 1 in 10 times, mumps develops into meningitis, which is quite serious and does cause v*. also it can develop into pancreatitis which causes v*, and i'm sure ive heard stories about people v*ing with mumps.
help guys im really really freaking out, i'm away from home at uni and this is really bad timing, im going through a break up at the moment as well and i was going to go and see him one last time basically so that the break up is definite (he is breaking up with me) but now this is going to have to drag on and i cant take it.
what do i do, i cant cope with this, especially not now, and without him.
thanks for your help, i really need some reassurance that im overreacting x

I'm sorry that you are unwell. I wish I had words of wisdom but have never had Mumps or known anyone that has (we get vaccinated for that here in the States).

Did the doctor give you antibiotics or anything to take? If so, I wouldn't think that it would get any worse than it is right now.

As for the boyfriend -- don't put yourself through the "seeing him one more time" drama. If he is done -- then you should be too. I know it's hard to move on but that is my best advice. You are too young to waste your time on someone who isn't interested (ya know???).

BTW - 3littlebirds -- are you a Marley fan??? Three Little Birds is my favorite feel good song (and ringtone for that matter).

Make sure you get plenty of rest and you'll most likely be fine. I've known a few people who have had mumps recently (and a couple of my friends' children have had them too) and nobody had any complications from them. They were just very sore and very tired. Feel better soon!
