did anyone else have anything else before they got emetophobia, i havent always had this fear i developed it when i was about 9. but im starting to think that maybe some poeple are prone to getting a phobia or OCD as before i had emetophobia i had a big fear of being burgled, id stay up sometimes all night incase i got burgled or heard a noise, and so i seem to have always had something wrong even before emet. maybe some peoples minds are prone to phobias if that makes sense?

has anyone else had other phobias before emet or if they got rid of emet but developed another fear in place of it?

I know exactly what you mean . I'm pretty sure that I've always had emetophobia fro birth - but I nevere really noticed it and it didnt bother me to much - I was more puzzled about v* than panicing about it.

I did used to fear going to the toilet I had the phobia for about 3 -4 years but eventually after being brave enough to go to the toilet - I must of got over it from practise. I think maybe - because I had had another phobia and knew the panic and fearful feelings it latched onto my earlier thaughts that v* wasnt goood etc etc.

Phobias are confusing but also very interesting!!!

after doing a lot more thinking -- i realised i had emetophobia, social phobia from birth.

i developed OCD when i was 11 though... so that came with time. the rest i think i inherited a dodgey gene from my dad or smthing..

I've always been an emet, but only found out that there were others in the past year or so. I'm not OCD, I have no other phobias, or depression, etc.

I'm starting to look into the possiblity of getting over emet now that I'm a mother and also, I'd like to maybe work in a school or something, but with emet, you avoid these places, at least I do.

I know that I became emetophobic at age 5. Altho from ages 9-15 it wasn't too bad. That was because at age 9 I threw up one time and I was okay about it. At 16 my emetophobia got very bad again after having to take syrup of ipecac because of contracting food poisoning. I am going to be 31 next month and its so bad that I have become agorophobic

Actually, it';s very interest....I'm a psych/neuroscience major at school. And I typically do research on thing I can benefit from. So anyway, I was thinking about conducting a research study on emet. (anyone interested?) lol. But I was trying to look up previously published articles and I only found one. It linked emet to seperation anxiety as a child. I know I suffered from SEVERE separation anxiety, honestly, to the point where I would not go to school, and if my mom tried to drop me off at school, I (embarrassingly enough) used to run after the car and rab onto the bumper until she stopped. It was a horrible experience. I can get a copy of the article if anyone is interested. It also correlates agoraphobia, OCD and emetophobia.

i personally experienced separation from my dad, but i never really thought it was too bad, or at least, i always thought i could handle it....maybei just moved that dread from a conscious level to an unconscious level and developed my emet.....i would be very interested in that article if you want to send me something,eyecandi....

im sorry if any of you guys find this distressing, but even though i have always feared vomit.. i used to also be petrified of pedophiles in my area.
a girl was murdered down my road, and just recalling the incident made me feel phobic of all strangers.. especially considering the manner in which it happened.
I would stay awake all night shaking about it.. the thought of those type of people petrified me.. but not in the same context as emetophobia.
Before my emetophobia got bad though.. my fear of peadophiles was more of a concern

I've had emet for as long as I remember (probably about 3) that was fear of others being s* but myself being s* since about 10. As a small child I was terrified of water, my parents took me swimming each week but I clung to them in the pool, screaming, until they took me out. I have horrible memories of being taken to the swimming baths with school (i.e. without the comfort of my parents). I'm still not a great swimmer now although I do enjoy it now... as I got older I have developed slight OCD but I think that's to do with the emet and needing to keep myself and my environment spotlessly clean.

hey maybe there is a correlation with emet and seperation anxiety, at least with me anyway, as when i was 7 my parents split up and my mum left and i stayed with my dad, so maybe there could be a link between the 2 things.
