Well I found out today that for Drivers Education we will drive individually. Thank God. But now I just have to worry about getting through three hours of class on Mondays and Wednesdays for four weeks. I've been having panic attacks very frequently and they are getting more severe. Today I had one and I couldn't breathe and I was shaking and had a heavy/weak feeling my chest. I can't be in a classroom having these panic attacks. Should I ask my counselor what I should do and maybe she can get my doctor to give me something to calm me down before drivers education. Or should I just chance it and see if I have an attack or not? OR, my Atarax for my stomach also acts as an anti-anxiety medication. Should I just use that? ADVICE please. These panic attacks suck and the one I had today lasted about 45 minutes. And I wasn't even scared of v. The panic was just there. I was out practicing my driving and it started in the car and lasted while my mom passed medication at her work. And then it went away once we left her work. This is really weird.....

I am not a doctor, but this has happened to me before....

Maybe you are so nervous that this will happen in class, that you`ve begun having the P.A.`s constantly now.....So now you really think your going to have them in class....But you have to try and break the cycle, try to take a calming pill now and maybe for the next few days just to break you free from the cycle.....Then start thinking positive about doing this driving thing, remember FREEDOM!!!! Who doesn`t want that?????

    Keep us posted!

I think terified is right about the panick attacks. You are sooo worked up about having one while you are there that you are causing them to happen more and more. When actually you need to calm yourself and realize that you will do great. You won't be able to take something to calm your nerves if you are driving that day because they all tend to more you drowsy and they will slow your reflexes.
The freedom is SOOOO worth it. I HATE being a passenger in a car I have claustrophobia as well and when I went and got my license it made things soo much easer for me. I was able to go and leave when I needed and not depending on anyone else.
Where a lavender spray to class it is a relaxing scent, bring gum and a bottle of water. Remeber to breath deep and slow. Again I think that once you are there you are going to be concentrating on what you are learning and things won't be so bad. Its only 2 days a week and the classes are only 3 hours which is a lot less that a school day.
Big hugs and good luck hun. PLease keep us posted.

i think you should talk it thru with ur counsellor -- cos she needs to be aware of the stressful times of ur life, lkes these times, and how it affects yoiu e.t.c.

she'll be able to giv u the best advice on whether to ask the doc for medication e.t.c. but you may find once uv been once, things will calm donw and u woint be quite as scared nemore.
