I know this isa little weird...but here goes!

My dad has a really bad cold, the kind where you cough so hard that it basically sounds like you're gagging. Yesterday, my mom was out of town, so it was just me and my dad, ALL NIGHT, and this morning. I was jumping up and racing out the front door every time he coughed hard, and one time I even got across the street before he knocked on the window to tell me that he wasn't going to throw up. My parents are telling me that it's just a cold, people don't throw up with colds, and i know that! But it's still hard to think rationally about this: all my brain remembers is that he is sick and there is coughing. Last night he was in his room coughing, and I slept about 4 hours. 10:30-11:30, 1:30-2:30, 4:00-6:00. Then, I was at school all day and he's STILL sleeping, so I don't know if he's thrown up or anything, even though my mom says that he probably hasn't, and my mom's going out to teach yoga from four till ten. help, I'm in a panic!

You gotta take a deep breath, first of all, and relax.

If your dad says its just a cold then its probably just a cold, I'm sure if he would v*, he would have already, and as you already know, a cold is usually just a cold with a sore throat and a cough and a runny nose, and sometimes it's just the cough!

So try not to panic anymore because he's ok, just shove a Halls into his mouth or some cough syrup!!!!

    Take care ok!

Its okay to worry like this. Just take a breather.

The chances that he has been sick is low. My sister knows about my phobia and she always tells me whenever she has been sick. She also reassures me that it wont happen again around me which is good. Plus ive always found it hard to be sick when you have a cold because it hardly causes any effect.

Hope everything goes your way! Chris

awww anya , what a scarry situation. I do the same kind of thing, my mum always gets bad coughs and starts chocking. I cant stand it and have to run outside. You can feel the panic take over you and you have to run - its an odd reaction. One night I slept in our garden shed (it was summer and not cold!) because I couldnt stand the thaught that my parent will be sick.

I think that first you need to take some breaths and calm down. Its ahrd to think rationaly when you are getting worked up. Remember that your dad probably wont v*, its just a nasty cold. Nothing else. Maybe you could try first to run away but maybe listen to whats going on - or maybe not go outside but just to the door so you can leave only if you need to. Its ahrd to say to yourself taht you just arnt going to be scared, you have to build it up. But even though this is an awful situation, its good practise too

    Hope everything starts getting better

It's not weird AT ALL to us.

Most likely, if he's coughin n all that, that' s all he'll be doin. Do somethin to take your mind off of it. Whenever I feel sick (or scared cuz someone else is) I listen to a particular CD. One that is all my own n doesn' t remind me of anything but feeling happy. That always helps drown out my fears...

    Hang in there, girl!

im sure it is just a nasty cold -- people can get the most horrendous coughs with a cold... ppl at school has them all the time and evrytime someone coughs it makes me jump out of my skin

remember just to keep urself healthy -- and try listening to music via headphones if it gets too much?

aww hun I feel for you. I know it sounds like they are gagging but it is just the throats reactoin to the tickly mucus from the coughing. If he said he hasn't then he hasn't. I use to be a runner to. It was pathetic.
I still get the pannick feeling. My husband coughed this morning and the splashed water to wet his hair. Well my blood pressure skyrocketed and my pulse was racing just because the first thought was OMG he was sick. I made myself not cover my ears or run and it was all good.
I am sure that you will do just fine hun. Deep breaths, slow breathing and happy positive thoughts.
