Has anyone been to a hypnotist or know anything about them, and if they
are effective? My mom is seeing one right now to quit smoking, and she
is a TOTAL realist and doesnt usually fall for crap (although I think
shes getting desparate to quit...) and she told me it helped. She said
afterward, she didnt FEEL like smoking. She still had the physical
cravings for a cigarette of course but she didnt feel the urge to
smoke. Im curious if this person could help me stop being so bloody
scared of being sick. Info appreciated.

btw, side story I just had to share with you guys- went to a volunteer
event a few days ago, and we were cutting pies for serving and the gal
next to me AND the lady in charge were LICKING THEIR FINGERS when they
got pie on them, and then continuing to cut the pies. Thats just
DISGUSTING to me, Im sorry!!! first off, licking your fingers is gross
and unsanitary, secondly youre getting your disgusting saliva on other
peoples dessert. I was disgusted but I just smiled and nodded and didnt
participate in the germ fest. Am I abnormal or are these people just
    ignorant? lol

Nah you are not at all abnormal for feeling that way!
You are RIGHT, it is DOWNRIGHT nasty and no one in their right minds
should be doing that! I dont worry too much if I buy a sub or something
because the stuff is kept in an airtight area and they ALWAYS wear
disposable gloves! THAT IS WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING!!

i went to see a hypnotist but he didnt do anything for me, however each hypnotist is different and so are their methods, if this person is helpin your mum then they have every chance of helping u. the most important thing is that u keep an open mind and that u believe in it, if u dont then u will be reluctant to the change. but if he is helpin ur mum then u have no reason not to believe he will help u too, so yeah, go for it ! let us know how u get on!

I saw a hypnotist but it didnt do much for me, bu ti found it hard to relax... it might have been better if i had the sessions in my own home..? Anyway as faith-marilyn said, every hypnotist is different so search for one who seems like the nicest and most understanding. It cant make it any worse anyway!!

There's lots of discussion on this board - back a ways - about hypnotists. I have yet to hear someone who they've helped, but yet the hypnotists themselves claim to have helped everyone they treat! Anyway, still watching for someone to say hypnotism actually helped them.

Having said this, I suppose hypnotism could be a part of a successful treatment program...it could help get at the root of some of the fear, or perhaps help in relaxation...
