Hey all!

For those of you who know something about OCD, I mean usually its like a physical ritual you feel like you have to go thro, a pattern for your mind to feel "at ease". Well, can this also work for say thoughts? Like I notice with myself sometimes my mind gets like "stuck" on something, and its like my mind cant like "put it down" till Ive thought about it enough to feel "at ease" or somethin. Like its like my mind also gets stuck on trivial things, that seemingly dont mean much, but its like my mind doesnt just say "ok so thats like that" and let it be, it keeps going on about it. Is that anything to do with OCD?

    Hi,

Yes that sounds like an OCD trait as well. Your mind just blocks on a certain topic and you need to go over and over it until it feels "right". I have been diagnosed with OCD about a year ago and apart from the physical aspect of it, I often have what my family and I call "mental blocks" I cannot get something out of my head no matter how trivial and unsignificant it is (as is often the case). It can get frustrating and quite tiresome as well. Difficult to concentrate on other things. Once I was in a horseback riding competition and it was a jumping course which is obviously timed. Well I got stuck in my head that the second jump was red and white with a blue thin line. I had already cleared that jump but I could not concentrate on the rest of the course! I enventually decided that I was not doing too well an I might as well put my mind at ease and I went back to the 2nd jump to see if I was right. I was crying afterwards....stupid OCD kept me off the podium!!!!

Well, it does get pretty annoying. And its not just cause of emet and stuff, its always been like this as far as i can remember. Its like especially with people/faces, if that makes any sense. Its like my mind gets fixed and its like i can't get it out of my head and it does drive me nuts sometimes. This isn't a new thing tho. I just was wondering if it was OCD or what.

    This post is very helpful.

Galadriel and I have been talking for over a year, and what you descibe fits really well with what happens with her.

She seems to get something like ''freckles'', say on me, ....lodged in her mind and it will be nearly impossible to get it out..... she doesnt do this with other folks.... only the one (me) who is invading her space (she also has trouble with up close and personal relationships).

I dont care what folks say, having support groups like this so a person who thinks theyre alone with these problems can come in and see that they arent and they have a lot of folks who understand, is really great.

I have that too... but mine is usually when I'm doing a menial task, like cleaning or something and I'll keep repeating phrases, concentrating really hard on them, and the phrase won't get out of my head. It's very frustrating when you want it to go away, so I know where you're coming from. I also have the OCD where I feel I have to do certain things in order to not get sick. I think that one goes with the emet....

it does sound like an OCD trait yes --- "normal people" apaprently naturally have a few -- but if it causes you anxiety or is time-consuming then its best to try and work on it.

Hey Jen, Yeah that makes sense. I am trying to work on it somehow, im not quite sure waht to do to make it stop, but I guess you just have to make yourself get over it or something.

-2Jo2- that does sound like a version of it, i guess its different things for different people. It must just be what the brain chooses to focus on or something.

Well, Im gonna read up about OCD, just got a big book from the library about it. Im not sure, cause lots of things can fall under OCD, and I know most commonly its associated with an action, such as cleaning, or counting, or something like that that is compulsed about. Its harder to pinpoint I think when its mental stuff.

well there's been things that Sage has mentioned that are OCD that I never knew, like picking at your hair, which I do all the time.... I'm not surprised then that I have other things that fall under OCD, I just caught myself doing the repetitive words yesterday when doing the dishes. It's like the words get stuck in my head, it's frustrating, because when I notice I'm doing it, my head still won't stop it. *sigh*
