Unfortunately as you know.. I HAVE and that triggered my emet at age 4, uggh! MY GOSH HOW CAN A PARENT BE SO CRUEL?????? I have heard that they pulled ipecac away from pharmacies for that reason as well as having to do with eating disorders. What is that called when parents do that? Munchausen Syndrome by proxy??

I haven't used Ipecac, but I heard a story about how my friend was babysitting and gave the kid mouthwash, but forgot to tell him not to swallow it so he did, and the parents didnt have the poison control number out, so she had to take ipecac from the medicine cabinet and give it to him. Thats when i vowed never to babysit.

Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is right I believe. I read that a lot of parents actually smother their children or poison them repeatidly to gain something from doctors. Affection or care maybe? Isn't that SICK?

I've had it and I am pretty sure it was what started this whole thing, at least my Dad thinks it was the syrup of ipecac. My Mom made me take it after I ate too many chewable kids vitamins.

I've never had any o fit myself, but I've heard many bad stories where someone with emetophobia takes it, but isn't able to throw up. In the end of the stories, it usually makes their phobia worse, because it wouldn't go away just after throwing up once (most of the time, anyways) because it runs deeper than that- something from a bad experience before, or genetic stuff...

How can ipecac not allow someone to throw up? I have never heard of that happening before. It sure made me throw up. I forgot to mention in my intro that my mother tried convincing me to stick my fingers down my throat. She figureddoing thatwould make my phobia somehow miracuously vanish. I actually did try doing that one time several years ago. All I did was gag myself sillyand nothing happened. A complete waste of time.

Oh I have a GREAT story.

When my bro and I were younger we snuck into our cabinet and stole a bottle of Flintstones Vitamins and began eating the whole bottle. The next thing we know my dad is giving us a clear liquid from a spoon and minutes later we have a video camera glued to our faces as we're v* and crying over the toilet and swearing never to eat Flintstone vitamins again

I think some medicines and vitamins shouldnt taste good because then children eat them because they taste so good.Thats what happened with me. My mom was careless and left orange flavored Tryaminc lying around so I drank the whole bottle thinking I was getting a delicious orange drink. Uhh. And then the hospital gave me the ipecac. Horrid.

Awwww, sorry to hear that. It was on tonight and my
daughter liked it, but she wont be getting her hands on those vitamins.
In fact, she is very good that way. One time by accident I left the
enfalac vitamin, liquid form that is on the side ontop of the kitchen
counter. She was about 18 months at the time and knocked it over... she
came running over to me and pointed at what had happened! Ever since
then I have been REALLY careful with what I leave out! We are all
human, we forget but now I am sooo careful. Thats why I cant really
blame my grandfather for leaving his heart med out. Yeah I was a
curious 4 year old but I guess he got side tracked. For a long time I
blamed him though.</font>

It's the vitamin makers' fault. Why make a vitamin that looks and tastes like candy. It's like if a bottle of poison was multi-colored and tasted like soda pop....yummm soda pop

I used to have to take this medicine and it tasted exactly like banana milkshake...it was so yummy!!!! One time my mum caught me trying to drink it from the bottle hehe but luckily for me i hadn't drank much and so my Mum didn't make me V* I wish i could still take that medicine when i was ill...so much nicer than aspirin or swallowing pills!

And yeah a girl on one of the emet sites told her story where she took ipecac and still didn't V*

Yeah, I ate Flinstone vitamins too. When I was 5 years old. My Mom made me sit in the middle of the kitchen in front of a trash can. It was horrible. My Dad later told me that he didn't think I actually needed to take the ipecac. I am talking about an incident 20 years ago and I just recently found out that is probably never had to happen.

I prob. didn't need the ipecac either that time at 16. The hospital peoplethought I had food poisoning and gave it to me anyway. Better to be safe than sorry I suppose. That stuff is nasty. Thanks to that, my emetophobia has been ruining my life.
