Well, today I found out the reason why my friend was absent from school yesterday. She said she had the flu. I was hoping she meant the REAL Flu, influenza, not gastroenteritis. But, then my other friend, who is her friend, asked, "What did you have? Throwing up?", or something like that. And the girl answered yes. So, I was talking to her before I knew she had a vomiting illness the day before. Do you think I could easily catch it from talking to her? It wasn't like we were in an area where there wasn't a lot of air and I wasn't breathing a lot of the same air as her. And, I use A LOT of hand sanitizer. So, do you guys think I will get it, if it was contagious? I mean, I have heard that a person can still be contagious the day or two after their symptoms stop. Hmm. I am afraid, but I am not that afraid. I just hope I won't get anything.

Hey Youngemet... I had to deal with the same thing just last week. I had just come back to work after a nasty cold, only to find that like half of the residents (I work in a convalescent hospital) had gasteronteritis. I was in a panick mode for like three days straight. I washed my hands like literally every single time I left my office and then came back in. And in between I was using almost an entire bottle of hand sanitizer each day. (I'm still paranoid, even though no one else is sick anymore...) I would hold my breath when I left my office, only breathing when I was just about to run out of air.But I went to work each day, and I didn't get sick. Even with a compromised immune system. So I wouldnt' worry too much about it. Just keep clean hands, and don't touch your face. You'll be okay!

I'm sure you'll be fine. Stay clean, get enough sleep and take good care of yourself and I think you'll be in the clear!!

    Good luck!!!

You will only catch it if you drank from the same glass as her, or used the same fork as her and stuff like that. And even then, the chances are very slim because she was infected yet. Don't worry too much hun!!

Just remember that we are very careful ppl and I think thats why we hardly ever get sick, and sometimes if we do get sick, we think its the flu but it could be anything, even stress......

So stay tough, stay cool, you'll be just great!!!!

Nahh....you are ok hun. Unless there was some kind of oral ingenstion or if she sneezed in your face or something you are ok. Besides if she had already been sick and was back it is even less likely that she will pass it on to you.
Who knows she may have had a food poisoning too. She might have been sick to her stomach but if she isn't emet she may also have been sick easier than you would be. Besides as you said you sanitize a lot as well.
    No worries.

This situation is a real problem to me too. Last week when I was home from university one of my friends who my dad had worked with the night before rang in sick with sickness (we live in a pub). I was worried as I know that my dad does not worry too much about hygiene and would have shared a drink or packet of crisps with her. I then panicked all weekend that my dad would have got it and passed it to me. I did not catch it though and have been ok.

Now I have come back for the weekend again and the same girl has a little boy who has now been sick and so must still be carrying the bug came in and worked with my dad again. I gave my dad strict instructions not to share a drink or crisps with her and to wash his hands before he ate anything. I know this is really over the top but I cannot help it. I spend hours and hours worrying about it.

Also my auntie rang me and asked if I wanted to go for sunday dinner. But I had to ring her back and say because of my emet I would not be able to come as it was really bad at the mo and kim had had this bug and it stressed me even more. I really need to conquer this!!!!!!!!!
