Is it possible to throw up from a broken arm? Like, medicines or anything they give you? See, my brother almost certainly broke his left arm today, and he's at the hospital now. I'm scared to death that they'll have to do surgery to fix the sticking out bone, and he'll get sick from that...

I got sick when I broke my arm. But it was from the anestsetics. They have changed a lot since I broke my arm though.

Hopefully you're brother should be fine! I just recently had surgery too on my mouth, and I didn't get sick!

well, the only time Ive heard someone getting sick from a broken limb was right after it happened and they're in shock. I know when my mom broke her wrist she yelled everyone to clear the way because she thought she was going to be sick, it was just the bodies reaction. i dont think you would get sick from the drugs these days, unless you have very weak stomach.

Yeah, no he should be fine! I went into shock too...but I don't remember any pain at all (which was good!), I just felt woozy, then I was sedated.

I agree, I had a friend that told me you know when you break a bone because you feel queasy and may get sick. So I think once the cast is on and the excitement is over, he should be fine. If they do surgery on him, I don't think they'll let him leave the hospital if he's v*ing and can't stop. You should be clear. I hope he's ok.

My dad just called from the hospital, and 'tis not broken, just dislocated. Same thing that happened to me when I was about 3 or so, and jumped all the waydown the steps. They're going to sedate him, and then pop it back into place.

Can sedatives make one sick?

The others are all right. I fell so hard once while learning to snowboard that i almost was sick. I fell so hard and it hurt so much but as soon as that part was over I was ok.
Most people are just fine after it all and sometimes they can do it now without putting people right under. They will often give you gravol anyways via IV to help any nausea or v*******.
No question is a stupid or silly question. It is the way we learn.

I think that sometimes your body goes into shock and then eys you may be sick..

i was hit by a truck (as a pedestrian) and knocked down and i slid quite a ways...bashing my head fof the pavement and taking full brunt of a truck to my hip..and I was never once sick and I didnt even feel naseaus! I did panic though..i ha da bloody nsoe and i was sure that would make me sick..but NOPE!!

You will be just fine..and so will yor bro!!!
And now I\'m glad I didn\'t know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I\'d of had to miss the dance

If he does v in the hospital they wont release him all that quickly. I know where you are coming from though. My brother never had a broken or dislocated limb, neither did I but he had to go to the hospital often to get tubes put in his ears back in the 80's. I knew that anesthetics, especially in those days would make you sick.. and I worried about him getting sick from the drugs all the time but it never once happened. In fact I havent heard of anyone being sick from a sedative or even an anesthetic except for my SIL, but she v's at the drop of a hat from anything so dont count her. But no chances are he will be fine. But again if he is sick, they wont release him right away due to hydration and electrolyte balance issues.

Gah... My dad called again, and now the doctors are saying that it's severly dislocated in 2 places. They can't get it back in place, so they're most likely going to have to keep him overnight, and do surgery. I feel really selfish about panicking about his throwing up.

Well, even if he does throw up....he won't do it near you! It will most likely happen at the hospital after surgery. And it's doubtful he will throw up anyways!!! He should be fine and on his way to healing soon.

Well, actually, more news- he actually is not going to have to have the surgery if things go well overnight. I'm not sure what they specifically mean by that, but they did have a lot of trouble getting in back in (seeing that he's been at the hospital for at least 9 hours or so.

that just sounds so painful... I think I'd rather have a broken bone rather than a dislocated joint.

I hope he'll be ok. Don't feel selfish... we all think about it, it's the nature of the beast.
