Well a few hours ago I walked into my daughter's room to take her out of her crib before serving her dinner. I found something nasty, no not v but she had pooped and smeared it in the crib and the worst too, I think she was even EATING it!! But I dont think the amount was major, but bacteria IS bacteria! I yelled at her since she is old enough to know that she did something wrong but I am so afraid now she is going to get sick! She did eat her dinner willingly and is acting okay. Before I served her dinner I asked her if she wanted to eat and she said she was hungry. She is still acting like her normal self. My husband said he hears of kids doing this all the time and dont get sick. I hope he is right because I just hope now she doesnt get sick!!! She has smeared poop in her crib before but I dont think she had ever eaten it. I surgically scrubbed and sterilized her hands big time. Just because she is okay now doesnt mean she wont be up all night v'ing !! (( Well there is a first time for everything, this might just be the first time she is sick after getting out of "official babyhood" Oh I am SO glad the test came back negative today! Uggh!

Well, I am sorry to hear that your daughter has been doing that. Um... I will not say that she won't get sick, because there is a chance. E coli. poisoning takes a few days to incubate, so you may need to wait. I know it may be hard. But, young kids like to experiment with things, and I can imagine that some kids who do this do not get sick because they do not get enough of the bacteria. Also, their immune system can fight it off. If it was only a very small amount, she may have not have ingested enough bacteria to make her sick. I am not an expert, though. I just hope she doesn't get e. coli poisoning!!!!

I doubt she'll get sick from that. I don't think you can get E-coli from that, my friend is a microbiology student, and she told me that little kids poop is surprisngly clean!
.I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again. I just want to feel deep in my own world. But I’m so lonely I don’t even want to be with myself. <3

Hmm... that is interesting. But there is E. coli in bowel movements, from what I have heard. Now, maybe in little's kids feces, there isn't enough to make them sick, but do not listen to my post. I seriously do not know.

kids eat their poo. it happens. it's funny. try to look at it as something humourous. she won't get sick but if she does, at least you'll know it's not a virus or something you can catch.

Uggh for me it doesnt matter if its from a virus or not, sick is sick! Anyway I have been reassured by others, including my mom that its highly unlikely that she will anyway. And yes it was an extremely small amount but she has been acting like her normal self tonight. She *should* be okay now....hope hope hope. Thanks anyway though.

Youngemet- E.Coli bacteria lives naturally in the human bowels. If we get to much of it, which is generally from food poisoning, that is when we get sick from it.

mbs-I coulnd't honestly say whether or not your daughter would get sick from something like that. Did you talk toher pediatrician?

If that is the case then it probably would have long happened by now. Unfortunately it happened at a time her pediatrician is not anywhere to be reached. I am just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. She is sleeping soundly now and has been for the past 2 and a half hours. I hope she wakes up bright and perky in the morning like always. If so then it should be safe to say she is in the clear.

Okay Im gonna share something which is incredibly gross so if you dont think you can handle it dont read it. It does have meaning to your story.

When I was 2 years old, one of my cats threw up and, apparently, i ate it! EWW!

But apparently i was also fine and acting normal afterwards. I didnt throw up or anything so i think (or I hope!) your daughter will be okay. Children are always eating things/bacteria/(in my case) mud lol/ (in my case again) sick so your daughter will hopefully be okay.

    Best Wishes, Chris

my daughter did that once - it was both hilarious and horrible at the same time. but she got sick immediately.

and i don't think you can get e-coli from your OWN poop...but i'm not 100% sure...you might want to call poison control just to ask.

When I was a baby, apparently I did the same thing. I picked the poo out of my diaper and smeared it all over the walls and on my crib. I don't know if I ate it or not, but I don't think so. But when I was very young, I used to pick my nose and eat it, lol! I never got sick from any of the nasty things kids do. I even ate a mud pie once and was fine, so I'm sure your daughter will be okay.
