I'm not getting one, not down with the idea of injecting myself with a small portion of the flu virus to avoid catching the flu. Hopefully no one here is getting caught up in the hysteria of not being able to get a flu shot. Cause viruses have the ability to mutate to adapt to thier surroundings. Just stay clean this winter.

Not only are you injecting yourself with the flu virus (one of which is only a guess as to which flu is going around ) BUT
there is MERCURY in those shots! And god knows whatelse to preserve them! Scary!
No I won't be getting a shot and no one in my family will either!
I never have and I never get the flu.
MERCURY??? Where did you hear that from???
Last time I had shots to prevent diseases, my arm was weak and sore for 2 days. I'd rather not get the flu shot, a girl I work with got hers and said she felt sick for 2 days afterwards. ugh.
.I just want to feel safe in my own skin. I just want to be happy again. I just want to feel deep in my own world. But I’m so lonely I don’t even want to be with myself. <3
I'm from New Jersey, I can't find any way to get one considering I am younger a viable. The shortage in the states sucksThis is the first year I havent had one!
I got a flu shot last year and I got hella sick anyways. No v*... but really really sick. It sucked. So I'm not getting one this year. Its not worth it to me.

True dat! Don't get one, save the flu shots for the old and really young people, they are the ones that really really need the shots, not us teenage/middle-aged folk.

Babydoll, where are you in Canada???
In the uk only the oldies and ppl at risk (weak immune system) Get flu jabs. So yay i dont need one. But my mum and sister have to have them and they never get any side affects or anything? They were totally fine afterwards)

I couldn\'t tell you why she felt that way... she felt it everyday and i couldn\'t help her... i just watched her make the same mistakes again...
there is no live flu virus in the flu shot. please stay informed with proper information - this is really important. you can find out more about flu shots by visiting any number of reputable web sites, including:
www.cdc.gov
www.hc-sc.gc.ca
www.who.int
<font size=\"4\"><font color=MAGENTA><font face=\"Times New Roman, Times, serif\">It can, and does, get better with time.</font></font></font>
i wont be getting one no, as Sarah said in the UK they're only really availble for the elderly ...
i wudnt want one anyway -- again, i think its just another way emet will tke contorl over me, and im not letting that happen.

I have never had a flu shot either, and I don't think I will ever get one. Maybe when I'm older.
okay, i understand not getting one when/where there's a shortage but why wouldn't anyone opt for one otherwise? i don't understand why you wouldn't want to minimize your chances of getting a really nasty virus that could keep you laid up for weeks.....especially if you live with/work with/are close to someone elderly or with a comprpmised immune system.
someone, pleae explain....

Elizabeth is right... there is no "live" virus in the flu shot... but the virus is in there. The nose spray, however, does have the live virus in it, just in a weakened state.
I personally have never gotten a flu shot and I've never gotten the flu... it seems to me that the only people I know who ever get it are the ones who get the shot. I agree that when there's a shortage we shouldn't complain. Healthy, young people like ourselves aren't nearly as likely to die from the flu as elderly people and children with compromised immune systems.
But no... I don't know too many people who don't feel yucky for several days after getting the shot and many children run fevers for a couple of days. And I agree that I really don't want someone injecting me with a virus (activated or not), no thanks.
The thing that I hear that annoys me is someone who had a stomach bug who claims they had the "flu"... the flu, otherwise known as influenza is a respiratory illness with symptoms that can include headache, sore throat, fever, fatigue, runny nose and muscle aches. There is no such thing as the stomach flu.
The best thing to do is stay home if you get the flu, the people who get incredibly sick are the ones who don't take careof themselves by taking a few days off and resting! Also, stay away from people who have it and wash your hands. Oh, also, the whole "cover your mouth with your hand when you cough" thing that your parents always told you... NO... cough into your shirt or elbow because when you cough into your hand you just spread the germs even more to anything you touch! YUCK!!!
Oh, and Elizabeth, to answer your question, if I were to be working with elderly, or people with compromised immune systems then I guess I would have to get the shot, however, if I were working with those people then they should have gotten the shot and there should be no need to worry right? Not really... cause it doesn't matter, you can still get the flu. And you can also be a carrier of it regardless of whether you have it or not. Basically, if you're going to get it, your going to get it plain and simple... the thing they need to stress is for people tostay home and take care of themselveswhen they're sick!!!

Giving up doesn\'t always mean that we are weak. Sometimes it just means that we are strong enough to let go.

I have never had a problem with the flu shot in the past other than having a sore arm for a few days. However I have no idea when I am going to get mine because I think I am coming down with another cold virus! UGGH! Its no wonder these weird things are happening to my body. I had the cold, flu, and now another cold is coming on. Must be a different strain from somewhere since you cant catch the same bug in a month or something. And I use the hand sanitizers, have no idea where they are coming from since no one in my house is sick!

well, because I work in the heatlth care system, I have to get one, and I'd want one any way. You cant get the flu from the shot. only milder symptoms occasionally. Ive never gotten the flu since Ive gotten the shots so thats a pretty good track record.
sure its a guess, but id rather have some protection than none!

Elizabeth -- i kinda already explained my reason for not getting a flu shot.
i'd only get one to protect myself from v*ing... feeling ill and being in bed for days doent bother me *too* much, just the v*ing part.... so if i was to hav one, it wud be for emets sake... and i'd rather just do things naturally... if i'm meant to get the flu, i'll get it, if i dont, i dont. its like.. i wudnt really think about IVF, cause if i was meant to have kids i'd be able to hav them naturally... just this flu argument is on a bit of a smaller scale... just slightly.

Well, since the flu shot is made of killed flu germs, it has some antibodies in it, or something, but basically makes your B and T white blood cells have a memory of the certain germ, without exposing it to the live germ.
I got the FluMist, which has weakened flu germs. That fact bothered me a bit, but I didn't have any side effects. The FluMist is for all those other people who are able to fight the weakened viruses. Someone with AIDS, or any other immune system problems, wouldn't have the FluMist.

MBS730...I'm not making it up or "hearing it" its a known fact that MANY vaccines are preserved with Thimerosal. Check it out! Thimerosal (mercury) is being investigated for its link to brain injury and autoimmune disease.
Something funny...ask your medical doctor if they receive the Flu Vax. My daughters ped doesn't ...even when she had cancer. Both of my doctors don't. hmmmm maybe they know something the media isn't sharing?
"According to the CDC, about 90% of the 2004-05 Flu vaccines will contain thimerosal. (A mercury containing 'preservative'.) "For the 2004-05 influenza season, it is likely that 6-8 million doses of inactivated influenza vaccine without thimerosal as a preservative will be available." (out of 80-100 million doses.)"
