<DIV>Hey all!
I know this has nothing to do with emet! I was just wondering, how do girls get their hair to look sleek and nice? My hair is kind of that odd halfway between straight and wavy, its pretty much straight, but it does really annoying wavyish thingys espeically in the back, and I think it makes it look more unkempt and stringier. Is there any way to fix this? I use conditioner, and that helps some, but its still annoying!! Maybe if i got it cut in a certain way it wouldn't do that so much? Right now its all one length just brushing my shoulders. Also, how do you get hair to not do that frizzy thing where (even straight hair can do this) you get those little hairs that in the back stick right out (I think its hair that has been broken and gets wiery) but that also makes my hair not look kept up. Its really annoying! Any hints or tips or anything would be great. I want to avoid the greased look of gel/spray tho, but maybe there is some sort of product that helps it?. Thank you!! I have a product at home I use by Matrix. It's called Sleek something (in an orange tube). You put it on when your hair is wet. Not too much though b/c it can make your hair feel real greasy if you do. When I go home for lunch today, I will check the exact name of it. It seems to work pretty good. Another thing I have noticed with my hair (it's curly and tends to get just wavy spots also), is I use a really really powerful blowdryer, and it seriously straightens the crap out my hair. That's another thing. Buy a powerful blowdryer. I don't even have to use a brush with it to straighten it. I will let you know the name of the one I have also when I go home for lunch. Also, my hair used to be all one length. I recently layered it, and I love it. It gives it so much more body. My hair is really long. Probably past the middle of my back. Talk to you soon.

Thank you for the advice Mel!! I do have a blowdryer, but (looks sheepish) I never use it! I usually let it air dry. I'll have to see about that product though! Your hair sounds like mine! I see girls around campus tho with the most beautiful sleek long straight hair and I get so envious lol!! Maybe I'll stop one of them and quiz them abotu their hair, so they can look at me like Im nuts!!

I'm almost positive that the girls you're seeing use a straightening iron. Also use a smoothing shampoo, conditioner and products like the straightening syrum Mel talked about. But the look with the smooth and shiny hair you are seeing on campus was probably done with a straightening iron. You can get them anywhere like Target or whatever.

I haven't gone to lunch yet to find out the products' names. Sorry.lol I'm going soon though. 2jo2 is right about the straightening irons. They probably use them. I would not do that to my hair, but that's me. You can try it though. They can do a lot of damage. That's why I stay away from them. I swear, the blowdryer I'm telling you about works wonders. Talk to you soon. Those irons can cause more of those little hairs you see on the back of your head stick up. The broken ones.

Thank you for the info!! So it sounds like a smoothing product is the way to go. Is there anything to be done about hair getting stringy? It like does this thing where it kinda "seperates" into sections, and it drives me nuts!!!

Hey funny you are talking about this. This has nothing to do with what you want done but.. remember the crimper? I wonder when that is going to be back in style! I know at some point it will be again, I still have mine and I'm sure it works even though its something like 18 years old. I was just thinking about that before.

Sorry, but I forgot to check the name at lunch. I've had a lot of crap going on, but I'm making a note now to check tonight when I get home. I will let you know tomorrow. Sorry, hun. Talk to you soon.

Jenneh, thats what I end up doing with my hair too! Its always pulled back!

Miriam-I think the straightener I have has different settings (I got it cause my bro's gf moved out awhile ago and she left it! Its been in my br for like a year!) and one of the settings is crimp! Mebe I'll play around wiht it some time.

Hmm, my hair's sort oflike that. I nearly always wear it back. I wish I still had the hair I had up until about 6th grade, 'twas naturally straight, and didn't get all frizzy or anything.

I use a product that's a putty, it doesn't do much for frizz, but makes my hair stay in place! I've ironed my hair in the past, but I kinda like the waves I have. You could try a straightener, they work well.

I also use Dove shampoo, it's amazing, it makes your hair sooo nice and soft!

I have pin straight hair (almost too straight, i think) so I don't know about thewavy thing, except that my friend with curly curly hair uses a straightener or an iron. Sometimes I use hers, just because it gets the hair more sleek. To prevent the clumps and/or the frizzy stray hair things, I use Pantene ProV sheer volume conditioner. The volumizer gets rid of the clumps, and theres this formula in it that repairs the frizzy things. But i bet you could do that with a similar brand too :-D

I have some wild animal growing in my hair, I'm sure of it. Mine sounds like yours--naturally wavy, thick, frizzy, and split ends. I always wear it in a ponytail because if I don't, my hair gets huge. I have a small round face too, so any short hair styles just make it worse. I sometimes wish I could just shave it all off and buy a wig. Anyone wanna donate their pretty hair?

i know what you mean! my hair is very fine, so I can't grow it much past my sholders. and it gets all string like sometimes, even with regular trims. it doent get frizzy much but I love "redken glass" when it does - its pricey, but ive had my tiny bottle for about 7 years and its only half gone. u only need a tiny drop.

I wish I could find a cure for the straight hair stringies!

Haha my hair is really long (almost to my butt) and thick, and it gets
messed up instantly.. its never been completely straight, always rather
wavy, so sounds a lot like yours. I gave in and got it permed when I
was like 10, and Ive been doing it once a year ever since, and putting
really good mousse in it to hold the curl every day. Its a pain in the
rear spending 10 minutes on it everyday to comb, but it looks good on
me, I think The mousse I use to keep it under control is Regis (its
a salon) dual action. You can only buy it in Regis hair salons and its
pretty pricey but it keeps the mane under control!

Hey Galadriel:

The product I use is by Matrix and it is called "Sleek.Look", and it's a smoothing system. That's what it says on the tube. The hair dryer I use is Conair Air Turbo 1875, and it works great. I've hadit for awhile, and I hope they still sell them b/c I'll be needing another soon. lol It seriously blow dries my hair stick straight. Good luck with finding something. Take care, girlie. Thank you Mel!! Sounds good!! Ive used my blowdryer, and I suppose it sorta kinda makes it a little straighter....I'll have to see tho, but that sleek stuff sounds good, I think this stuff is supposed to make hair straighter and sleeker, the stuff I got today.

Hey there Mel!!

Well, maybe Im doing it wrong, but my hair was still kinda damp, and I put in the straightening/smoothing stuff (mebe too much) but it didnt seem to do a whole lot. I didnt blow dry it tho, just put it in after semi-towel drying my hair.

Also the gel didnt quite make my hair curlyish, it just looked kinda ratty! Mebe Im doing that wrong too lol! Hmm....
