I have heard many concerned or afraid about anesthesia causing n* and v*. I am a Paramedic and have worked in surgical rotation and would like to share a secret for those who may not know. Recently I had a hernia surgery where I was out under general anesthetic and was terribly upset about the thought of waking up with n* and v*. I recalled someonething the anesthetist once told me when I was doing surgical rounds. If you do have to go in ask your doctor to perform the nausea cocktail and vacuum. What they do is just before you wake up they vacuum all contents both liquid and solid from your stomache. Then they inject into the IV a combonation of Zofran and Reglan.

I stand here as one of you and tell you that it worked amazingly. I woke up woozy from the general anesthesia and didn't feel one lick of n* or v* at all.

Just a thought

hope it hasn't already been covered
