Hi. I am scared to death. My 5 week old son just spit up his entire bottle. Granted, he'd just had a 4 oz. bottle only 2 hours after his last one. Plus he wouldn't burp. But I looked over at him and fomula was pouring out of his mouth. He didn't seem distressed so I HOPE it was only eating to much. But I am so scared to death that it is the beginning of a stomach bug. He's sleeping now but I can't go to sleep and I start shaking everytime I hear him make any sound. Help???

I fully and totally understand the paranoia. But babies spit up like 24/7, especially after big meals. Just relax, I doubt it's the flu.

Having had two babies do this to me multiple times I would say do NOT worry dear heart. Trust me, when they vomit from illness, it does not just flow out. You can hear them retch and all of the rest of the distressful package. There were times when my son wouldn't burp and he'd spit up a whole 8 ounce bottle! That was quite the mess.

Another thing that may out your mind at ease is when babies are that young, if they do contract a stomach illness they tend to only have diarrhea.

When mine were babies, they would spit up a lot if I didn't burp them
frequently during feedings. I think they get air bubbles in their little
tummies and if you don't get the air expressed and continue to feed it just
comes right back out. Try burping more often during the feedings and see
if it doesn't help.

I had a few occasions where it was so much it totally freaked me out, but it
was only the air .

Good luck!

Sounds to me like he just needed to burp. If it continues to happen, he might have a little reflux. My son has it and takes Zantac prescribed by my doctor.

^ My own daughter suffered something similar her first four months of life. It is quite the ordeal!

Thanks everyone! I think my son just ate too much. He's been fine, since. I just wish I can get through a day without thinking every odd behavior or symptom from anyone in my family is the beginnings of one of those nasty bugs.

A baby cannot burp on his/her own so if there is a a pocket of gas and they can't get it out, voila, they spit up big time.
