Hi, my name is Katy. I'm a new member. I've been emet for about 10 years
and haven't gotten sick for 15. Anyways, last night I went to dinner with my
family. My brother barfed 7 times and I had a panic attack. I can't get the
image of him getting sick out of my head, and I still feel traumatized and
shaky. How do I stop thinking about it? It usually takes me between a few
days to a few weeks to stop freaking out.

i STILL to this day have images of my brother v*ing from YEARS ago that i can't get out of my head (i'm 22 now, so they're from like 12 years ago...) or now, if someone suddenly does it on tv out of the blue, it's all i can think about for hours and it's hard to get it out of my mind. i just try to immediately switch my brain to something else when those thoughts creep in, like what errands i need to run that day or what i need to get done for school/work. stuff like that. hope that helps

I HATE when I see someone get sick. I don't know what to tell you about getting it out of your head. If I see it happen I think about it for days. The image gets burned in my brain.

Hey Katy; welcome to the forum! Hope you can find some words of wisdom here that enlighten or bring peace to you.

Very sorry you had to endure that incident. I don't know what you can do to remove that image from your head.

The emotions around that memory will mellow with time so just keep yourself occupied and the less you recall it the sooner it will fade.

If you don't mind my asking; what steps are you taking to overcome your emetophobia? Several folks here have mostly overcome this (including me). Each of us is phobic about different aspects of V*. You may read some of the "what made me emet" stories and find someone who fears similar situations to yours. Search their posts and look for things that helped them with the anxiety.

My phobia is all about myself getting N*, getting sick, and being humiliated in public. Seeing others V* is not very stressful at all.

Welcome and thanks for posting here!

Respectfully,
David
