I have lived with this irrational fear for so long now, that I know MANY ways to help it... I still have the fear mind you, but have found many little tricks that help me when I feel what I call a *anxiety attack* coming on... hopefully this helps some of you...
1- Write down on a piece of paper *The day will come and the day will go* One step at a time...and post it on your desk or somewhere that you are often during the day! Repeat it to yourself often when feeling ill or anxious. This helps me in understanding that no matter what at the end of the day you will get through it... for those of you who beleive in God what also helps is repeating to myself that god will never send me anything I cannot get through... this eases me when I think of this...
2- When feeling anxious right away go find something you LOVE to do, a distraction of some sort, weither it be coloring, writing, reading, singing, surfing the net playing the dumbess game, or watching your favorite sitcom that makes you laugh!!
3- Remember this is an irrational fear, IT IS IN YOUR HEAD, more than it is physical, the more you think about it the worst you make it!!! Think of positive things, or think back to a time when you did not have this fear controling you!
4- Take time to breathe, deep breaths in through your nose and hold it and then release very slowly through your mouth, do this as long as it takes, doing so will have you concentrated on your breathing and less on your nausea.
5- Fresh air!! Make sure you have lots of it... Go for a walk if need be...
6- If you have a boyfriend/girlfriend husband/wife, talk to them about it, it is very important that they know what you are going through, the more people know about it the more it will help them understand and the better you will feel... also.. when you are feeling anxious ask them to rub your feet or back, this helps immensley!!! it helps calms down, and also do the breathing technique while they rub you! My husbands rubs are a god send when I feel ill...
7- Talk about it to your doctor, let them know about it.. this way they will know what to give you and what not to give you when you have certain illnesses
8- Every morning, EAT... breakfast is the most important meal and also helps your stomach not feel ill... eat 6-8 small meals a day, lots of veggies... not only are they healthy but they carry alot of vitamins and natural sugars and protein that helps you stay well and fight common ilnesses!
These are just a few of the things I can think of right of the top of my head that have helped me over the years, maybe just maybe they can help someone else... I have done alot of research and have dealt with this problem for all of my adult life and then some... and even though I still have this fear, I try not to let it control me too much...
I hope this helps and beleive me fellow emets, I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL, I have been through it all!!!
Thanks
