Sorry todo thisbut I need to have a public moan as I'm feeling awful

Today I've been feeling bad. I didnt get up till 12 and felt quite bad. I havent done anything today - just sit on the computer. It got dark at 2.30 today - its so depressing. I'm feeling a bit sick. I was yesterday evening too. There is a good reason why I may be feeling ill , but I'm never usually like this I'm so petrified about the next 2 months. I really dont want to go to school, I dont want to go out, I dont want it to be christmas. I hate it. I'm not feeling suicidal - but I feel like I just dont want to do this - I dont want to 'do' the winter Its so hard - why do I have to feel like this

izzy, i know that the christmas months are always yucky, the weather's cold, everyone's generally stressed out/ out of cash/ over worked etc.
i got up late today aswell.. it was half past 10 when i dragged myself from my pit, and i know that it doesn't put you in a great mood for the rest of the day does it?
if i had my way, we would skip summer instead! thats when i feel generally yucky and horrible, because of the heat and the lighter evenings etc.
i have sat at my computer all day too! iv been whingeing about my christmas holidays/ gcse modules.. guh, they're this week.
my stomach feels a bit odd too

I'm sorry you guys are in the same position - isnt it nasty oh well - atleast we can come on here and have a moan about it!

I hate this time of the year... I mean I love Christmas and being around my family and stuff, but with finals and cold weather and like you said it's getting dark much earlier (around 5 here) I tend to get seasonal depression. I'm actually doing a LOT better this year than last and I think it's probably due to the medicine I'm on.

    Hope you feel better soon...

I feel the same way, I get really anxious around this time of year. Ive been feeling really sad lately and I think it has alot to do with stress (and I always feel sad around my birthday). Hopefully the next few months will go by really fast.

I was in all weekend too (but I tend to be agoraphobic anyway). Not feeling great. I find this time of year hard as well. For as long as I can remember I've even dreaded Christmas break. All the people, all the eating - it freaks me out. In winter time, I am especially fearful of flu and stuff. And there has been an increase of the incidences of Norwalk virus in Calgary, where I live. I feel like I'm in a constant state ofanxiety and depression. Hopefully we will all get through it, and maybe, just maybe have a better new year. I certainly wouldn't wish emet on my worst enemy, but it is nice to know you guys are out there and understand.

Sounds like at least some of you are suffering from a touch of SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder - basically you are not getting enough sunlight and it makes you feel depressed and yucky. There are remedies - the most important thing is to make the most of what daylight there is - wrap up warm, sling on the water-proofs and get OUT into the daylight - being indoors, even by a window, isn't nearly as effective. You can also get special daylight lamps (not those daylight bulbs that crafters use, more like small sun lamps) - you could probably get info about them from the doctor, or search the 'net. But try to look on the bright (!) side - it's only just over 3 weeks to the solstice, then it will start getting lighter again.

    Best wishes, Jill xxx

Scampi you are so right! I found out last year that there are things that we can do to make ourselves feel so much better during this time of the year and though unfortunately I found out after the worst was over last year, this year I've putmany ofthe suggestions to use and they've worked wonders )

SAD typically occurs during the winter months and can be characterized by increased fatigue, anxiety, irritability, loss of interest in usual activities, lack of energy and inability to concentrate. And more often than not, it occurs in areas where there's a more dramatic seasonal change.

Just as Scampi said, make the most of what little daylight there is this time of the year by bundling up and getting outside... rake leaves, take a road trip, or just sit outside and read a book.Even when it's cloudy out theeffects ofthe light are good.

I haven't tried the sunlamps you can buy, but I've definitely used the tanning bed this year and I was amazed at how good I came out feeling. You don't even have to stay in there long enough to get a good tan if you're not comfy with that, just going for 5 or 10 minutes makes a big difference.

It's also important to maintain a healthy diet and sleep pattern. Many people, myself included, tend to eat more when depressed and staying healthy will help keep your energy up. And getting too much sleep is close to, if not equally as bad as not getting enough.

And lastly, stay involved in your activities. Hang out with friends and try to enjoy your time as best you can.

    Hope everyone feels better

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn\'t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn\'t know that so it goes on flying anyway.
