Drug to cure all phobias!

Lidocaine has a similar structure to cocaine; as such I can only imagine the hurdles in getting the drug approved for that sort of indication. It sounds to me as if the researchers have gotten the fish high and then found the fish were less concerned about their "fears."

Ah, so it's the disinhibition effect, much like alcohol has.

It could be; it's difficult to draw a parallel between what a fish does and the complex psychological factors of human fear. That being said, I would imagine lidocaine as applied to the cerebellum would have similar effects to insufflating (snorting) cocaine.

Interesting. Not exactly a reputable paper though is it? Not too sure - I'm not from the UK. But if such a thing were available I would do it for sure. I'd love to be completely fearless and not have to work though coping mechanisms all the time in dicey situations.
Goldfish...hmmmmm....I dunno. We'll have to wait and see eh?
