I posted the other day about my roommate, who had a d* emergency from something he ate, went "all over the place" in a port-a-potty, got it on his pants, dropped his cell phone IN the potty AND PICKED IT UP. Yes, after he had d* in it!!
Even worse, he didn't wash his hands between all of that and getting into his car/coming into our house. I have bleached every doorknob and light switch and kitchen surface (except the dishes themselves) at least twice. He spent the weekend at his gf's house and as far as I know hasn't gotten sick. But residual germs are most likely still all over his car and cell phone, and every time he comes in the house from his car he re-introduces them...right?
My question is: how long does it take for a virus to die outside of a human host--could there still be noro in his car or phone? Do I need to worry about bacteria, like salmonella? And could he still get sick, even though the initial 48 hours has passed since the incident?
Also, what is the "normal" way to act when something like this happens in your house? I've never had this much fecal matter (potentially) brought into my house before, so I don't know what to do other than bleaching every surface like some kind of nut. Tom (my roommate) says I'm just a germaphobe but I think something like this is objectively pretty disgusting.
