    Wink Ocd...

I was wondering, is it common for someone to have both OCD and emetophobia??? I dont just mean with the cleaning and stuff...

because I have a addictive personality and once i'm obbsessed, Im obbsessed. Like Ive only ever been obbsessed with simple things, like tv programmes ect. but when it happens its crazy... like about 5 months ago I was addicted to skins, I couldnt live without it... eveytime I watched a new ep I felt this crazy bout of adreniline then when I watched a ep Id seen before, I felt normal but if I didnt watch it, Id be depressed... Seriously, Id get excited when anyone said anything that I could refer back to it. When I wasnt watching it all Id do is think about it... I remember even dreaming about it every night... it was so special to me.... eventually my obbsession wore off.

This kind of thing has happened many times. I was wondering if that was some traits of OCD... and maybe it also played a part in my life long obbsession with throwing up (emetophobia) I also love to have my room in perfect order... or else I get scared I will throw up.... thanks for listening xxx

i think they go hand in hand...bc my dr says that being an emet is a control issue and obviously so is ocd at least with my ocd, which is mild but I still have it.

Yeah. That's a diagnosis I've heard too. Basically anything you spend a lot of time thinking about, like a LOT of time proportionally to how much it should affect you, counts as an obsession. So the obsessive part is technically true, for me, and I guess the compulsive part is too if you count bleaching the whole kitchen the second I heard my roommate v*d earlier today!

Also OCD isn't as badly stigmatized here (in the US) as some other diagnoses. Not even as stigmatized as depression, I think. It's pretty neutral and people regard it as common.

Its definitely common. You can develop OCD as a result of emetophobic behaviors, like checking food labels and washing your hands and such

I've got a diagnosis of OCD - it's the most INFURIATING condition! The things you mention don't sound OCD-ish to me, hun, so I wouldn't worry

I have ocd rache. It is a symptom of my emetophobia. I use it to neutralize my fears. Not olny do I wash my hands, I will do it several times because worry I didnt do it properly the first time. I wont write in green pen etc etc. OCD can take many forms. Apparently most people have Ocd TO SOME POINT! So I think your tv thingy is probalbly just something that most people do and just not say!! According to my psych nurse ocd does not play a part in causing our fears. It is just merely an unfortunante consequence. When my fear goes sky high, I rely on my OCD behaviours to bring me down from the ceiling (neutralizing thoughts) Recently I have been trying to fight the ocd. I have remained in situations and forced myself not to do the ocd. I was terrified like I was jinxing myself. I did it though and the next time it was ok. I now only have ocd in a "hot zone situation" lol!:-)

Thankfully yours doesn't sound like true ocd but if you are concerned and these obsessons start to encroach and restrict your day to day life, Then I would see a Dr for some help xxx

My new doctor thinks I have OCD. I never thought of it like that but him describing symptoms it really actually fits! Like, I have strange superstisions 'if i do this i'll get jinxed' etc... I feel germs on my hands as if they are gloves, etc etc...

Vix - that's classic OCD symptoms. If someone asks me when I was last s*, I can't answer for fear it will jinx me Also the counting/touching that a lot of people with OCD do is often about un-jinxing things. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you (in a non-OCD/jinxy way ) that you don't have OCD - it's a bloody nightmare!

I do, do that jinxing thing quite often... :S but its usually to do with throwing up... like i'll say if I can get out of the room by the time this adverts finished, I wont throw up... its really wierd and random... I definatly wont cross on the stairs, cant stand anything of the number thirteen ect. if i wasnt emetophobic, i wouldnt be too fussed... I also have this new wierd theory, everytime i say the lords name in vain he gets angry and considers making me sick... its annoying me... I think its mainly to do with my fear though...

That could possibly be OCD - undertaking rituals like that in a way of 'making sure you're ok' is classic OCD behaviour. I have certain things I do in order to ensure that 'I'm ok' (counting road markings/words on posters; crossing my fingers at certain times etc). It's bloody ridiculous, I swear whoever designed my brain was either having an evil day or fell asleep on the job!

Feel the same way. Feel like I could make a more functional brain than mine out of mud and sticks.

    Haha yeah I'm like that.
But I'm getting CBT therapy now which looks like it really should help. Although it's uncovering loads of different stuff I didn't know I had haha. Still. My therapist thinks this time next year I could be completely cured. I'm SO excited!

There's also another kind of OCD called Purely Obsessional OCD, which is when someone only has intrusive, upsetting thoughts without the rituals. I'd say that might be fairly common in a lot of people with a severe phobia. Personally, I have a mild form of Trichtilliomania, but I haven't gone to a counselor about an OCD diagnosis so I can't say.

I have OCD. I'm really obsessive, get intrusive thoughts, and wash my hands... a lot. The doctor prescibed me Citalopram for it. x

My doctor now thinks that my entire emetophobia stems from OCD. It makes sense to me, I think.
