Default My life is being ruined

I'm 13, and I've been afraid of v* since I was 6. The phobia occurred after I ate some bad cookies at a birthday party. I was fine that day, but somewhere months after, I started to develop emetophobia.
Now, this past January, I caught something at school. That day, I thought I got over it, but it has since come back now. I'm horrified. If I eat almost anything I start feeling sick. I have panic attacks daily, even if it's just gas. I need help. I can't get to therapy because a) my family has no money, and b) we have no car. It is picking away at my life. I used to be happy and bubbly...now I'm just alone, scared, and cranky. HELP ME.

Oh, I'd like to add that my emetophobia is not as bad as many people's, I can watch videos etc. but not be near it. And with myself...I am just so scared I'm crying. I want to enjoy life and overcome my fears.

sorry to hear about your troubles. mine started when i was about that age also.......i have really bad times and not so bad times with it. is there a counselor you can talk to at school? i showed this website to my husband so that he could read about emet and get a better idea on how i feel. most people dont understand......it is sooooooooo scarey to us. i'm like you....i can watch movies, etc......but if someone around me has a sv i totally lose it.

what i do (or try to do) is to set little goals for myself and push myself to them........like going to work when i dont feel good......i tell myself.....go for an hour.....then stay till lunch.......most times by the time i get involved in my work, my mind gets distracted and i feel fine and make it through the day. the thing to realize and this is the hardest part......is that your anxiety is causing you not to feel good......and if you can distract your mind chances are good the sick feeling will go away........if you read through other posts on here you will learn other tricks that people use to get through the panic........snapping a rubberband around your writst, etc.

i'm glad that you found this site.........i hope you will find some comfort and relief here.......we totally understand how you feel........

try some baby steps......take some deep breaths........trya and relax......you will get through this......as scarey as it seems......

look forward to hearing from you again.....

    where do you live?
    how i feel about emet

Thanks. It feels really good I'm not alone on this! I actually almost made myself v* yesterday. Just to feel better. But I constantly get n* because of anxiety. I'm homeschooled, by the way, so I don't really have anyone I can talk to. My mom talks to me though, sometimes.

hope you are feeling better today.......maybe if your mom reads some the the letters on here she will better understand how you feel......its tough for non-emets to get it sometimes and she can learn to help you lessen your anxiety when it starts.....just a thought

Lightbulb Re: My life is being ruined

Your almost lucky to be home schooled! I wish I was when I was going through my worst times in school. 13 is a tough age as it is without emet.... Please know that not having psychological help is not all bad. I went to see someone when I was in elementary school and it was the worst experience of my life. So when my Emet came back in my teenage years (i went from 4th to highschool without any issues that i can remember) I made it a point to find what works for me! That is something only you can figure out. It took a lot of time to come to a place that my emet is controlled, but it is now. I have taught myself what I need when i get anxious, and talk myself down. I used to have a lot of outward expression when i was anxious with emet. Now no one is the wiser when I am having a emet attack. As much as I do not want to say Psychologist are sometimes a waste of money, sometimes they are.... I am going to school to be a Psychologist to specifically help kids with panic disorder and kids who are bullied in school... two things I have life experience in.. If you do not find a Psychologist that can relate, you may get a generic answer to your problem. Just my oppinion. Some people need a Psychologist AND meds to get through their hardest years. My oppinion is to figure out your triggers, and what helps you get past your attack, and kinda build yourself a battle checklist. Show your mom so she can help you through any attacks you may have with her around. Having support at home can be beneficial.

Hope this helps!! You have this site too if you need people who understand! Your never alone!
