Hi. I believe that my friend may have emetophobia. When she was younger she had a horrible fear of vomiting. Then it went away for a few years. She had an upsetingexperience this summer, and now its back. She hasn't gone to school for a few months. She is always dizzy and nauseas. She doesn't like to ride the school bus. She is being forced to go to school now. She went with her mom to a meeting for the program and her mom had to hold her hand because she thought she was going to puke. Her therapist thinks it is just her OCD. I read an article and it sounds like she may have emetophobia. I was just looking for a second opinion. Thanks,

    Meg

Certainly sounds like she may have this phobia...perhaps you could introduce her to this site? You sound a very understanding and caring friend - she's lucky to have you. Another thing - there is a file on emet behaviour ... it might be worth looking in there - will just go i=and see if I can find it....

    hey meg,
yes,it sounds as though your friend has emetophobia, like everyone you see posting on these forums.
the motions you have just described in your friend are *typical* of an emetophobe, infact they are very similar to howi was back in august..

Her therapist needs to acknowledge that she has a fear of this..not just additional OCD..if your friend makes this clear, then she'll be able to tackle her fear of vomiting and deal with the other issues at the same time.

does your friend have internet access? if she has, direct her here..she will find tonnes of support from hundreds of us living with the exact same fears.

    Hiya,

I also think that it sounds alot like emet. I think though that there are alot of things that emet can bring on and vice versa, like depression, anorexia, and not forgetting panic attacks. I guess that the panic attacks come from a fear of sick. I know that for me people thought i had anorexia when it infact was emet and i just wasnt eating cos i was afraid to eat. Sometimes things arent what they seem, but dont rule emet out, it seems most likely.

Hello Meg! Well what you described, it does sound like emetophobia. Like what everyone else said, you should tell her about this site so she could get support too. ^-^

Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn\'t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn\'t know that so it goes on flying anyway.
