At what point is checking into a psychiatric facility necessary or a good idea?

Maybe when a person is at the point where they can't work, leave the house, eat normally, and take care of themselves. I don't know though. That's just my opinion though.

Normally it's when you may do harm to yourself, or someone else. (Doing harm to oneself also includes not eating)

Otherwise, there's good outpatient care available...but it takes a lot of "digging" to find it sometimes.

I agree. If your emet is affecting your health negetively, then I don't think 1-2 hour sessions a week will help much. Also if you are dangerously depressed, I would consider. Good luck with making the right decision. Charlotte

actually "harm yourself" is sort of an industry euphemism for "kill yourself". Self-mutilation is another thing altogether - a symptom of another kind of anxiety disorder, and doesn't necessarily need institutionalization.

I think the point is reached when emet interferes with your life in some way. If your avioding things to the point of where you cabbot live normally without avioding V, then I think it is a good idea.
