    Default Ridiculous question

So the biggest portion to my fear is being sick in public. The problem I have is I am nauseous all the time, to varying degrees. Most of the time in public, my hands sweat, my heart races, my hands and feet tingle, I get dizzy, etc...all signs of what I think are the big V....so I leave...and I don't get sick.

But if I stayed, would I get sick? That's my problem...I can't decipher between the big V and a panic attack?

My question is, how do you actually know you're going to be sick?? Ridiculous, I know and I'm sorry...but it plagues me...

The last time I got got sick, it was out of no where, in a car, and I had seconds of warning...see my problem...

    Hello,

I, myself, feel n* all the time to some degree, so I can definitely relate. When I was last sick, instinct took over. Mind you, I was sick before my emetophobia was as severe as it is now. I knew what to do, I knew when it was coming (not the first time, of course), and I managed. I suppose it's like when a bone is broken--you just know.

I hope that helped to clarify a bit. As for the part about being n* in public, I'm oftentimes in a situation where I can't leave and am forced to stay. I usually leave to somewhere quiet, like the bathroom, and say a quiet prayer until I feel better. Not sure if that counts as 'leaving', per se.

    Feel better,

    - Nicholas

    P.S - It wasn't a ridiculous question.

Thank you That does help!!! That's what I'm hoping...that I will really "know."

Bathrooms work for me, but I really have a hard time calming myself down...so in corporate meetings, I feel like an idiot, because I have to get up several times and stay out for a bit to try to calm down!

    Thanks for the help

It was no problem! I've often had to excuse myself from the dinner table, be it at home or at a guest's home, to dash to the bathroom to breathe and relax until that 'I'm-sure-I'm-going-to-be-sick' feeling passes.

I have a hard time calming down during unfamiliar situations or new environments. Two years ago, I started cramping in my stomach and feeling awful during dinner at a guest's house (a house I've never been to). We were eating out on the patio in 80 degree weather but I was shivering and couldn't calm down. Being forced to eat while feeling sick is terrible.
