Okay, my mum has just told me that my uncle has had gastroenteritis and that my cousins currently have it. Here's the great part: my uncle is coming over tomorrow to bring Christmas presents to us. We then have to take these presents to London to give them to my grandma. Will my uncle still be contagious? (I think he had it a couple of days ago.) Will I or any of my family be able to get the virus by touching the Christmas presents that he brings over?! Will I be able to get the virus by travelling in the car with the presents?!?!I really, really don't want to get ill, particularly over Christmas, and I'd hate it just as much if my dad or sister got ill.

I know this sounds totally stupid and bizarrebut I am just a bit panicky about this right now! I've heard of a few people getting this bug and obviously I DON'T WANT IT! Please help if you have any info.

No, your post does not sound stupid. I would be thinking the same things you are. Nothing anyone says on here regarding emet. is stupid to me. This is our fear and it is real to us. With that said, I personally dont think you will catch anything just from him bringing the gifts by and you transporting them some where. Just keep your hands washed and away from your face. Please try not to worry and enjoy the holidays. I know it can be hard, but we have to try to remember that this is a joyous time ..............

I agree with Jennyleigh. (hey, that rhymed!) Anyway, unless he still has symptoms, I would say he wouldn't still be contageous. I wouldn't get too close to him though, just in case.

Since this bug is not airborne, you cannot get it with the presents in the car. After you touch the presents, just don't touch any part of your face(or eat)until you have washed your hands really good. You will be ok under these conditions. Hope I helped! Charlotte

What you're saying is not stupid. I wonder the exact same thing. My parents were sick and they were going to mail some stuff to me and I wasn't sure if I could get the virus from the mail. It's a legitimate question. I agree with everyone's advice, tho, you should be fine.

charzybebe pretty much summed it up and said what I was going to say as well. It isn't an air born virus and as long as you keep your hands clean and don't share utensils, drinks or let any of them kiss you I am sure you are going to be fine. It isn't an absolute that even if you make the mistake and forget to wash your hands or they do kiss you on the cheek that you are even going to get it.
Have a wonderful Christmas and just keep your chin up and negitive thoughts down.

Thank you for your advice, it wasmuch appreciated. Well, I didn't get anything as severe as what he had (thankfully!)but I'm not right today. I woke up really early feeling ill and *nearly* did the deed a couple of times and have felt pretty crappy all day. Still, there's no diarrhoeaso I think I may have just overindulged or something?! It wasn't pleasantbut I'm okay now, just have a very annoyng stomach ache and am very tired from waking up so early! Hopefully I will sleep well tonight.

Hope you all had a nice Christmas

I'm glad you are ok and that if any thing you gota "mild" version of what your uncle had. You may have over-indulged as you said, or it maybe that you thought about it and worried about it too much.

I hope you continue to have the all clear, so to speak and that you, too had a lovely Christmas.
