My son was sick all day Saturday - any input on when I can start to relax with my other 2 kids?

I'm going nuts here - can't sleep or eat right. Just waiting for the other bomb(s) to drop!

Thanks in advance for any input.

I don't want to scare you, but my parents were sick starting with my stepdad on a Tuesday evening. We're going there for Christmas and I was s**t scared about it, and thought my worry was for nothing because my didn't catch it, til a week later.....

I'm just going to think that it was an awful coincidence and that the two were actually unrelated, thank you very much!

Maybe there was another reason why your son was sick! it might have been something he ate, so you and the rest of your family may be ok!

hey, as long as your son has made some significant recovery since saturday, then the chances are the rest of your family should be ok.
if the virus he has contracted has had time to run it's course..then he *shouldn't* be still-contagious, good luck

Yeah, he was pretty much fine by Sunday morning. If nothing else, it seems to be fast moving. Some consolation if the other two get sick . . .

Intellectually I know that if my other kids got something, it could be considerably different anyway.

Oh, well. I guess we'll see.

I generally go by the 3 day rule!! When my girls had rotavirus, my younger daughter got sick on Thursday night and my older daughter got sick late Saturday afternoon/early evening. THat was the worst, the threw up over 15 times in 2hrs. I was a basket case!

My youngest daughter was sick a few weeks ago. I think she got it from her cousin who started vomiting on Mon. afternoon, it was Thurs. night when my daughter started. She was sick all day Fri. and it was my hubby who took care of her, and he had it Fri. too. Blessedly, my other two children did not get it. Nor did I. I hope you get lucky too and that your other children dont get it.

    Keep us posted!!

Yeah, I would say give it a full 72 hours, then you can breathe again!

I can't breathe - I don't want to anymore! I've been thinking of ways to leave my family, whether by s* (I'm too much a coward) or just by running away.

What kind of mother thinks like this? I just don't want to do this anymore.

    you won't get it.

i'm scared too if someone close to me gets sick. but i always escape. don't know why, it's just an emet thing i guess :P

last year on 31 december my bf got sick and he couldn't be with me that
night. the next day i was sick as well. just a case of normal flu.
headache, coughing, fever, cold/hot, feeling miserable blablabla. but i
    didn't vomit.

and if you do get sick, it's not certain you will get stomach flu.
stomach flu is not transmitted through air, but through saliva. and the
chances of getting it are small.

we always escape the vomiting part, relax. maybe you will get the flu
and lay in bed for a few days feeling miserable, but nothing's going to
    happen.

Please try to relax. Worrying so much about it is only going to make it worse. You probably won't get it anyway. A couple weeks ago, I started a new job, and the attorney I was working for wasn't there b/c she had the stomach flu, but she came in the next day still sick. I was sick too with a bad cold and went home anyway. Anyway, I was talking to my mom about it (she knows all about my phobia), and she said to quit worrying. You are going to make yourself sick by just worrying. She said to me, if you do get it, so what? You are not going to die. It's not the end of the world. So, I took her advice. I know it's hard not to worry, but just try to. Relax.

When my kids are sick with the vomit stuff, I feel like running away too. Thinking that does NOT make you a bad mother!!

How are your children doing? Anyone else gotten sick yet?

NO NO NO Bkyle!!! You musn't give up hope!! Don't run away, and don't do the other thing!!! I know the panic you are going through! I have felt the same way soooooo many times. When my kids got better after they were sick, I was glad I stuck it out, even if I did get sick.

If your emet is affecting you this bad, you must get some help! I know you really don't want to do that to your kids...it is your fear that is talking. Take a deep breathe, and figure out how you can get help. Realize you are not thinking rationally, and you need to get some help with that. Please let us know how you are doing. I hope all is fine now.....Charlotte

Charlotte - Thank you so very much. It's (almost) funny, but I had an appointment with my Dr. for yesterday but my sitter bailed on me the last minute - I tried everything but had to reschedule for Thursday. By then the panic will (hopefully) be GONE. I kinda wanted him to see me in the state I've been in, but now I'll just have to try (again) to explain it.

Anyway, the other two kids aren't sick (yet?!). I'm starting to feel better now. To make matters worse, though, we've all had bad colds and coughs for the last week and 1/2 -

Thanks again to all for your support. I've made it through another episode . . .

If it makes you feel any better, my mom is an emet, and hasn't thrown up since I was a baby and I'm almost 25 now. She survived all of our stomach bugs without a single retch. She was very hygenic and never caught anything from us. I still can't believe she hasn't thrown up in 24 years. That's amazing. I hope I can make it that long!
