Cool Some good news regarding my emet

I joined this forum a month ago. Now I'm reticent to talk about this for fear of jinxing myself(Knocking on wood here), but wanted to share some good news. Part of emetophobia from what I've been reading here is a lot of anxiety-caused phantom illnesses. Always being nauseated and getting upset stomachs for no apparent reason. Usually hardly a day went by where I didn't get some degree of nausea. I'd been to doctors several times and none of them could find any issue.

Well, this last month, I've hardly had any nausea. Nothing major I can remember. Maybe at most some uncomfortable fullness after eating but this has probably been my best stomach month in recollection as far as the phantom stomach disturbances. Now this morning, I did wake up with an upset stomach, but it wasn't emet caused. I ate too late at night and woke up with pretty bad acid indigestion. I had heartburn, nausea and a lot of gas. But in this case it was actually caused by me. I took some Mylanta, it helped put out the burning feeling a bit, but I still had the nausea. The nausea was about a 3 on my 1-5 scale, though it approached 4 for a few seconds at one point. I then made myself a tea of freshly cut ginger root and poured hot water over it in my cup with a little sugar. Within half an hour my stomach was feeling better. Now a few hours later I'm hungry rather than nauseated, though still very gassy. Ginger is truly a gift from nature. Very effective. This is the first time I've tried just raw ginger root rather than having an extract or tablet. So I broke today's one month good-stomach streak, but at least it wasn't in my head and I know the exact reason it happened, which is good.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you. Perhaps just realizing that all these years of stomachaches were caused from emetophobia made my symptoms abate. I don't want to sound too confident and I'll be monitoring things to see if the trend continues. It's been a month and I'm feeling much better. I hope it doesn't return, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Yay! I'm glad to hear that your stomach issues are mostly anxiety related and not real! It can be difficult to make that distinction. I'm still working on learning the differences between anxiety stomach pain, pain caused by sore abs (too tense), hunger, and actual stomach problems. I do think that I'm going to pick up some ginger though, it sounds like a good cure, and I also like the taste.

    Maybe I spoke too soon.

Last night I went to bed with an unsettled stomach for no reason I can think of. Woke up this morning and I was nauseated. Felt like puking a few times but didn't. Kept sipping ginger tea. That helped, then I went to eat some bread for breakfast and that made me nauseated again. I decided to go mountain biking with a buddy and wasn't sure I'd make it so I took some pepto and that kept me feeling okay as long as I didn't eat anything. I just had some frozen yogurt a few minutes ago and my stomach is feeling woozy again. I don't know what's going on here.

I just went through that earlier this week. For me, I had to be on a stronger antacid. I'm on the 14 day course of Prilosec, and it's only day 2 but *knock on wood* I think that was my problem. When you stress your stomach may produce more acid so that even once you're not stressed you still feel sick (nauseous, woozy, uncomfortable, bloated, burning, gnawing pain for me. I almost got an ulcer.)...I only went to 3 doctors before my therapist and someone on this board pointed them in the right direction.

Great to hear you've had this insight mooki! Keep up the positive thoughts. There's no such thing as jinxing anyway.
