    Default Noro-Obsessed

There seems to be a norovirus obsession/paranoia on this board so I have to ask... How many times have you actually had noro in your life? Not suspected you had it but known FOR SURE because you went to the doctor and got a noro diagnosis.

Me..... never. I'm 47 and twice in my life after other family members got sick, I got sick too. One time it was vomiting twice during the night (I was totally fine the next day, went to work and everything(. The second time it was diarrhea all night long with nausea (but no vomiting). Again, I was perfectly fine the next day. These two incidents MIGHT have been noro, but I don't know because I didn't see a doctor. None of us did. So it could have been anything - even something we ate that was a little off. So even if it was noro, that a whole 2x in 47 years... and it didn't even last a full day.

    What about you?

That's a good point. Children, because of their immature immune systems typically get sick easier and more often than healthy adults. So if kids can do it, and be perfectly fine once whatever it is has passed, then why are we adults so terrified of it? Your daughter is right, it's gross, and nobody WANTS to do it, but it's not the end of the world, you don't die, and life goes on.... or should anyway.

YES exactly! We suffer more fighting it because there's no relief. If we'd just let ourselves vomit when we really have to, we'd feel better much faster.

    See how smart kids are?

I am very prone to getting noro. In my life time (which I just turned 29 today) I've had 6 sv*. The other times I've been sick were from food I ate that just didn't agree or drinking too much. For an emet I can't go on a long streak without v* like a lot of emets here.

Kristen - This is the Google definition of "Norovirus."

Norovirus (formerly Norwalk agent) is an RNA virus (taxonomicfamilyCaliciviridae) that causes approximately 90% of epidemic non-bacterial outbreaks of gastroenteritis around the world, and may be responsible for 50% of all foodborneoutbreaks of gastroenteritis in the US. Norovirus affects people of all ages. The viruses are transmitted by faecally contaminated food or water, by person-to-person contact, and via aerosolization of the virus and subsequent contamination of surfaces.

Basically, it is what non-emets call "the stomach flu." Although, it has nothing to do with the flu.

In response to this thread, I've gotten Noro almost every year of my life. And I lived in Florida till 2 years ago. People believe it is harder to catch when in warm weather, but that is not true. I caught it every Feb/March of each year. I usually v* once. The most I ever v* was twice in a day. Luckily, for me it comes on so fast I don't have time to really "dwell" on it. It's after I am better I freak out about the next time I'll get it

I had it a few times when I was a toddler (once when I was 3, 4 and possibly 5). I caught a bug off my dad when I was 10; I v-ed once so I don't think it was noro. The people in my house seem to catch it very easily, so I face being exposed quite a lot.
