Question Salads and D*, OT, probably TMI

Okay, I love eating salads (the lettuce kind, not nasty pasta salads and tuna salads) but every time I eat them I always get D* REALLY bad because I don't eat them often enough for my body to get used to the invasion of fiber. It doesn't freak me out because I know what is causing it, but it is still annoying because I can only eat salads at home. I figured that I'd ask here since the people here have a great understanding of the body's digestive system and the problems that it gives us.

I've tried taking anti-D* medications, but they just give me worse cramps and don't achieve much. (but I also developed a stomach bug the next morning, so that may have effected it.)

Would fiber supplements help? If so, what kind do you recommend? If not, what do you think would help?

Thank you in advance for your help!

It could be the fiber, but honestly... I have the same problem and for me I've found that there are just a lot of raw veggies that cause this issue for me. I could eat salads every single day and if I didn't watch what I put in them, I would always end up with cramps and d*.

For example, I cannot eat raw green peppers (did this just a couple weekends ago and suffered greatly for it!), even though I LOVE them. Also, iceberg lettuce, for whatever reason, seems to make me worse. Which I guess is okay since it has no nutritional value to speak of... lol. I tend to do better using green leaf lettuce which is actually supposed to be good for digestion. And if I add avacado to my salads I seem to be able to digest them even better still.

I just have to be careful.

For me -- iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, raw onions and green peppers are the things I have to avoid the most. Those and italian dressing. Which are all unfortunately things I really enjoy on my salads!

The same thing happens to me. I take Beano before I have a salad and it seems to help

This happens to me occasionally idk why either. I love salads so much it's do annoying! I love healthy foods so much but I get d* or gas sometimes with fruit and veggies I also have ibs idk if that has something to do with it. I eat mostly carbs because that tends to sit best. A lot of dairy gives me problems sometimes too

Well, on the one hand I'm happy that isn't just me! Hmm, I also have dairy problems sometimes too, especially ice cream (mmm, ice cream). I'll have to give the beano a shot. Maybe if I ate a whole lot of salad my body would just give up and accept the veggies.

At least it doesn't make me worried since I KNOW that it is going to happen, and I KNOW why it was going to happen, and basically when it is going to happen. I used to be able to eat them just fine. Oh well, mystery of the universe.

    Thank you everyone!

Just think yourself lucky that you can eat salads at all! I daren't because it hurt so bad when I tried one in the summer (because of Crohn's). If it was just d I wouldn't mind. But I get awful stomach pains from most high fibre foods, and veggies .
