    Default Please talk me down

I have two kids - 22 months and 11 months. All four of us (husband, me, kids) had the stomach flu (I assume norovirus??) the first week of January.

Husband just called - when he got to daycare this evening to pick the kids up, my daughter was very sick - fever of 101, and she vomited while he was there. Had no other vomiting all day, has just been fussy and not acting like herself. He gave her medicine while he was there, and she kept it down, and actually seems fine on the drive home now after the meds.

Is this another virus? Is this something I should anticipate we can all catch - or you think the vomiting was just a fluke? We do not know anyone else who is sick - we have all had the stomach flu already once this year (which I thought made you immune, or is that incorrect??) - nothing is going around at daycare at the moment.

I am freaking out. I am scared I will catch whatever she has. We already went through this once this season, I thought we were done and I could breathe easy for awhile. Please talk me down and tell me this is not the stomach flu again. She wouldn't be able to keep her meds down right after vomiting if this was the flu right??

She could have a virus but it doesn't mean it's a stomach bug it could be something else. Daycares are the worst for spreading gunk around. My son and I are both sick for the second week in a row with a different cold virus and he attends a daycare. If she can keep liquids down for at least 15 to 30 minutes she should be okay. She does have a slight fever so there is a possibility of an infection or virus. Call her pediatric nurse and ask for some advice if you can.

Well she took Meds and has kept them down for 40 mins now and seems totally fine now. You think that means there's no more v headed our way?

How is she now? Kiddos usually v* easily and highly doubt it could be a sv since you just had it. I believe the immunity is a couple months for the sv so I think you are fine. Does she have any diarrhea? If not then it's probably another issue going on. Ear infections can cause the symptoms you described but there is no real way to tell unless you get her checked out. Keep her hydrated and allow her plenty of rest and a brat diet when she is ready to eat. Hope she feels better quickly.

Kids can v* from a sudden spike in fever. I did it as a kid, and my 2 year old did it over the summer when he had an ear infection. (I was in panic mode though! - as soon as the doctor confirmed ear infection I was thrilled ) But she probably just v* from her fever. Hope she feels better soon!

Thank you both for the replies. She ate dinner (she was starving so I let her have something to eat) and she kept it down just fine. I think it was just a fluke. She seems fine now. I am watching her for the fever to return, right now she is still on the anti-fever meds which I think are making her feel better. We will be taking her to the doctor tomorrow, just watching her overnight to make sure we dont need urgent care before then. She has a history of ear infections but has never had v with them before - although my husband told me that when she did v earlier she had been crying for a long time beforehand and might have just overworked herself and upset her stomach. Poor girl. I wish they could just tell us what is wrong!!

Glad to hear she is better. It's difficult when they cant communicate how they feel and where it hurts. Being a parent is the hardest job ever!
